Senior Hurling Championship

This evening in Carrigtwohill our Senior Hurlers faced Imokilly in Round three of the Championship in what was a repeat of last year’s final. We went in at half time 7 points behind. The lads battled hard in the second half and with 4 goals in quick succession it still was not enough to secure the win. Final Score Midleton 4-16 Imokilly 0-34.

Team: Joe Loftus, Eoin Moloney, Luke Dineen, Seadnaigh Smyth, Sean O Sullivan, James Nagle, Tommy O Connell (2-01), Cormac Walsh, Luke O Farrell (02), Conor Lehane (1-11 7f), Cormac Beausnag (02), Jake Hegarty, Aidan Ryan, Garan Manley. Subs used; Padraig O Farrell, Sean O Meara(1-0), Eoghan Walsh, Patrick White.

Junior C Hurling Championship

On Saturday night we played Russell Rovers in our second group game of the East Cork Junior C hurling championship. We were short a few players, but still fielded an excellent team. We played into the Railway end and a stiff breeze in the first half. We started the game well and played some excellent hurling and took a few beautiful scores. The halftime score read Midleton 1-04 Russell Rovers 0-09. On the resumption we continued to hurl well but failed to turn our chances into scores. Russell Rovers continued to make the most of their position and held a three point lead until Alan Stanton made a great catch on the edge of the square and finished expertly to the net. Unfortunately the game ended in disappointment for us due to a dubious score at the end of the game. Best of luck to Russell Rovers and we will regroup and play our final game against Carraig na Bhearr in the next few weeks.

Final score Midleton 2-10 Russell Rovers 0-17.

Team: Jerome Curtin, Robbie Barry, Pat Fox, Rory Donegan, Brendan Ferriter, Barry Fitzgerald, Ronan Lynch, Ciaran Evans, Darragh O'Keeffe, Alan Stanton, Andy Rea, Davy O'Brien, Sean Corcoran and Christian Daly. Substitutes: Ethan Daly-Harkin, Padraig Dunlea, Coleman Quinn, Joseph Coppinger, and Shane Goulding.

Juvenile

Fé7

On Saturday morning we took 36 Young Magpies to Rathcormac for a Hurling and Football Blitz. We made up 4 Teams with 9 players on each team. The opposition for both the Hurling and Football Blitz was ourselves, Bride Rovers, Lisgoold and Mitchelstown. Our lads battled hard in both the Hurling and Football games and got some great Scores throughout. Overall as coaches we are very pleased with the group and the progression they are making.

We would like to thank Bride Rovers GAA for inviting us to this Blitz and for there hospitality. We would also like to thank all the parents, Players and Coaches that made the trip to Rathcormac. Next week the Fe7 lads have another Hurling Blitz in Pairc ui Chaoimh details of this will be sent out by Text Message over the next few days.

Fé9
Last week we hosted the Barr’s in a very competitive hurling fixture. It was great to see our lads play such fast and skilful hurling against a very physical Barrs side.
This was followed by a football blitz yesterday as we hosted Carrigtwohill. All the games were keenly contested and we were very pleased with the performance of all our players.
For the week ahead we will have hurling training at 7pm on Thursday in the Cricket Club and we are away to Kinsale next Saturday for a hurling fixture, time TBC.

Camogie

Huge congratulations to our club player Vivienne Gleeson and the Cork u 16a panel and management who are now All Ireland Champions after they defeated Galway last weekend! Great achievement Vivienne we are all so proud of you !

In fabulous sunshine the U10’s lined out against Fr O’Neills in Midleton last Sunday morning 25th August. Once again the girls were excellent with fantastic skills on display. The senior hurlers were training on the pitch as well and they were so impressed that they insisted on getting a photo taken with this wonderful team. Thanks to Fr O’Neills for coming in and to the parents who were out in strength as always.

Our u9’s travelled to Fr.O Neils for a East Cork blitz again on Sunday last in conditions warm and sunny. We played against our hosts Fr. O Neils, St. Catherine's, Dungourney and Youghal. Once again, all our players showed great work ethic, team spirit and determination in all their games. It was very satisfying to see the development of our players and some high skill levels were on display. Everyone performed brilliantly and we really enjoyed the well organised camogie blitz fun. Well done again to all the young ladies on a super effort. And a big thanks to the players, the coaches, the referees , Fr.ONeils Camogie club for hosting and all the parents who supported.

Our U12s lined out on Sunday 25th against Barryroe Camogie on the main pitch in Midleton on what was a scorcher of a day, Barryroe took the lead early on but our girls fought back to just secure the win, pictured is our Captain Mia. Well done girls on a super performance. Thanks to Barryroe for traveling today and to all the parents who supported us !

The Midleton U14 Camogie girls travelled to Fr. O'Neills last Thurs 29th Aug to play in the Cork U14 A championship last 16 encounter. It was the Camogie club first meeting at this A grade level and against local East Cork opposition added some spice to the occasion.

Midleton elected to play against a fairly stiff breeze in the first half and after the early exchanges took the lead with a well worked score from play. Fr. O'Neills then began to get a foothold in the game and started to dominate the Midleton girls and reeled off several points from play and with the addition of some frees went into the half time interval leading by 0-5 to 0-1. Midleton regrouped at half time and made some positional switches to provide additional firepower up front and immediately started to reap the benefit to score 1-1 and level the match. Credit to a skilled and determined Fr. O' Neills who responded to the challenge and scored a well worked goal to take the lead 1-5 to 1-2 after 40 mins. However the Midleton girls showed great character and belief to respond with 1-3 from play in the final 15mins to run out eventual winners 2-5 to 1-5. Both teams played the game honestly and fairly and there was mutual respect among all players and coaching staff at the end after a hard won encounter. Midleton now progress to the County A championship quarter final to be played in a couple of weeks. Midleton panel and scorers on the night were as follows: Jill Connaughton, Muireann Ni Chonchubhair,Elle McManus,Jade Fitzgerald ,Isabelle Nestor (1-0), Ruthi Hennessy, Ailing Naughton ,Emma O'Sullivan Capt (0-1), Emily Lamb (1-1) ,Kelly Quirke, Aoife Fitzgerald (0-2), Anna Sheehan ,Heather White, Saoirse Ni Theangana (0-1), Lora Dineen ,Emma O'Neill, Grace Kelleher, Rionnach Finn,Rachel Greene
