Junior C Hurling League

Midleton took on Sarsfields in the East Cork hurling division 3 league on Thursday 22nd in Midleton. We played against a very strong Sars outfit minus a few regulars on Thursday night. Despite the tight numbers we put in a very credible performance against a Junior B team. The halftime score was Sars 1-10 Midleton 0-06. Midleton showed great spirit in the second half and continued to take the fight to Sars but unfortunately they were too strong for us on the night. Final score Sars 3-19 Midleton 1-09.

Team: Cillian Hurley, Eoghan Collins, Pat Fox, Rory Donegan, Brendan Ferriter, Henry Foster, Jerome Curtin, Conor O'Farrell, Ronan Lynch, Paul Aherne, Darragh O'Keeffe, Christian Daly, Ethan Daly Harkin, Declan McInerney and Andrew Rea. Substitute used Shane Goulding.

Out next fixture will be on Sat 31st August in the junior C championship against Russell Rovers in Midleton at 5pm. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Juvenile

Fé6

On Saturday last Midleton Fé6 travelled to Glanmire for the a hurling match against Sarsfields. There was plenty of fantastic hurling from the Midleton lads in all the matches, displaying some of the skills that they have been practicing over the last few months. Thanks to all the parents , families and coaches who travelled to support the lads on Saturday – it was very much appreciated. Thanks also to Sarsfields for hosting and for some very sporting and enjoyable games. Training resumes next Saturday but remember to keep practicing at home!! The Fé6 boys would also like to wish the Midleton Senior Hurlers the BEST OF LUCK in their championship match v Imokilly next weekend. Magpies Abú!

Fé7

We had good numbers again at Hurling Training on Saturday Morning. The lads are putting in great effort at Training and most importantly are enjoying the games and drills we set up for them. Next Saturday 31st August our Fé7s are invited to play a Hurling Blitz in Bride Rovers GAA Club at 10am.We hope to have good numbers at it and we are looking forward to it.

U16’s, Minors and Juniors – 7.30-8.45pm at the Rugby Club.

Hard Luck to the Cork Senior Ladies Football team and our Club Player Orlagh Farmer who were defeated by Dublin in the All Ireland Semi Final. Final score Dublin 2-11 to Cork 0-11.

Best wishes to all our girls who are starting Secondary school in the coming days. This is a big moment for you all and we wish you lots of luck.

Camogie

The U10’s enjoyed a great afternoon of camogie in Cobh on Sunday. This was the second of our scheduled go games blitzes and the girls played very well in games against Brian Dillons, Cobh & Aghada. Thanks to Cobh for hosting the blitz and for the refreshments afterwards. Thanks also to the parents for the great encouragement from the side line. Next up for the girls is a home game against Fr O’Neill’s next Sunday Aug 25th followed by our home blitz on Sep 1st.

Well done to our U12 girls who began the start of the 2nd Round of the league campaign with a tough away match to Mallow Camogie on Tuesday evening, it was a tight game where both teams took the lead with Midleton just finishing a little stronger and came away with the win.

Our Club was well represented over the weekend on a County level as Jill Connaughton, Aoife Fitzgerald and Ruthi Hennessy all played in Cork u14 Blitzes in Thurles, Tipperary at various venues. We are so proud of all our girls in their success playing at this level. Well done girls and to all who were involved over the weekend!

Also wishing Vivienne Gleeson and Cork U16a team and management the very best of luck in the All Ireland final against Galway on Sunday 25th August!

Our Minor team played a challenge match against Aghabullogue last Tuesday evening in Ballinacurra the result didn’t go our way unfortunately as the girls battled through to end . The next outing for this group will be Sunday 1st September in Rossmore against Kilbree.

Midleton U14 girls travelled to Cloughduv on Monday 19th Aug to play in our first round of the A1 County league. The group also contains Cobh and Erins Own with the top 2 qualifying for the County league A1 semi-finals. Midleton started the game well and applied a lot of early pressure to take an 1-1 to 0-0 lead in the early exchanges, however Cloughduv were very economical with their possession and scored a goal on their first attack. Midleton continued to dominate and started to take some fine scores and finished the half 3-3 to 2-1. At the restart, Cloughduv came out and took advantage of a slight wind to pile on the scores to take a 3-4 to 3-3 lead. However the Midleton girls showed great heart to score 3 unanswered points to give themselves a 2 point lead going into the last 10 minutes of the match. Cloughduv then scored a controversial late goal to lead by the minimum and despite applying some late pressure Midleton were unable to find the equalizer. Final score line was 4-4 to 3-6 to Cloughduv. Many thanks to all parents and supporters who made the long trip to cheer on the girls. Our next league game will be at home to Cobh on Tuesday 3rd Sep.

On last Thursday evening 22nd, the U14 team were on the road again and travelled to Whitechurch to play Rockban in a challenge match. We travelled with the minimum 15 player and it was an opportunity to give some of our younger fringe squad members an opportunity to play. We elected to play with the wind in the first and despite a huge amount of possession we only managed 0-3 points in the early exchanges. Rockban countered with a goal of their own and the sides were all square 1-0 to 0-3 at the interval. At the resumption Rockban scored some early points and indeed Midleton were 3 points a drift at one stage, however the girls showed great fighting spirit to finish strongly to take a single point victory 2-4 to2-3. Well done girls! Our next encounter is U14 A championship fixture away to Fr O'Neills next thursday 29th Aug.
