Hurling training continues for the Fé6 boys every Saturday morning 10-11am. We had big numbers this week at training with all the boys showing great enthusiasm. Keep up the practice at home! Remember new members are always welcome. Thanks again to those helping out with complimentary tea & coffee at the GAA club for parents each Saturday morning.

Fé7

The Fe7 lads were back doing Hurling Training on Saturday Morning. There was over 30 Young Magpies in Attendance and they all enjoyed the different drills we set up for them.

We will continue doing Hurling Training for the next few week's as we have a Hurling Blitz in June.

Fé11

A great turnout of 33 players on Saturday for our rebel og games v Carrigaline away. Nice morning and pitch we're conducive to a plenty of good football in competitive games. Good to see improvements across the board in the lads.

On Sunday we had a big bus trip for nearly 40 players to Limerick. On the morning we played hurling matches versus Adare. Quick lunch and on to the Cork v Limerick game in the Gaelic grounds with lads giving plenty of vocal support to the Rebels.

Fé12

On Wednesday our Fe 12 footballers travelled to Castlelyons for the next round of the Eastern Football league. Again the lads worked really hard on the night. We had some good performances from Aaron  O Driscoll, Rory O Connor, Jake Kirby and Tomas Geary. Unfortunately the lads came out on the wrong end of the result, but cannot be faulted for effort and commitment that they show each game. Thanks to the lads who turned up on the night and gave there all once again.

Midleton 0-5pts Castlelyons 2-10.

On Sunday afternoon last, we took on Bandon in the next round of the Premier 1 and C3 Hurling league. In both games we really took the game to our opponents. In the Premier 1 ,lead by captain Mikey Pedley,, Lochlann Stewart, Josh Hogan, Eoin Ahern and the impressive Sean Crowley. We hurled the ball really well. The lads stuck to their task all through the game and never took the foot off the pedal. Also a special mention to Cian Fitzgerald who worked tirelessly and finished with 2-01. We eventually came away with a good victory on a score line of Midleton 4-15 to Bandon 1 -06.
The second game was very evenly contested. Again, the boys showed great  determination to win every ball. From Diarmud’s Lester in goals, to Ryhs Quill, Darragh Cronin, Aron O Driscoll , Captain Rory O Connor and the lively David Kelly who finished with a personal tally of 1-03. The boys showed great team work throughout and as the previous game the determination to win the balk was very impressive. We won came away on a score line of Midleton 2-07 to Bandon 1-04

Fé13

A busy week for Midleton U13’s, on Monday night we headed to Sallybrook to take on Glanmire for the Premier 1 Football League. This was always going to be a tough affair but we began well when Sean McSharry knocked over a lovely point from play, we then conceded a goal and a point. James McSweeney after making a great save played the ball out to Peter Barrett who found Cathraigh Cronin in space, Cathraigh carried the ball forward, his pass to Odhran Dennigan was quickly transferred to Darragh Egan who kicked over a beautiful point. Another free from Sean was quickly followed by another Darragh Egan point. Glanmire responded with four points on the trot. Glanmire then goaled before Sean McSharry struck over another excellent point from play. Callum O’Brien then showed great foot work and skill which yielded another point form play. Glanmire finished the first half scoring with another point from play. Callum O’Brien continued his trickery and was fouled, Sean popped over the free but then the hosts took over scoring 5 goals and 3 points without reply, to be fair our lads kept going, Cathraigh Cronin knocked over a free, Glamnire then struck two more goals, credit to our lads they finished strongly with Paddy Walsh eventually finding the back of the Glanmire net, another Sean McSharry point proved to be the last score of the game. A tough night for our lads but they deserve great credit for the sporting manner in which they played the game. Marcas Lambe had an outstanding game at centre back, Thomas Dunlea as usual put in a huge shift Daragh Egan, Carthaigh Cronin , Sean McSharry also deserve mention. Final score Glanmire 8.09 Midleton 1.09.

On Friday evening we had a home P1 Hurling fixture v Sars, this would prove to be a shootout. We had the better of the opening exchanges, Peter Barrett struck over a free after he had been fouled himself. We missed several chances before Sars had a point from play, Sars then found the back of our net before Darragh Egan struck over a lovely point from play. Despite a lot of possession we found ourselves chasing the game as our opponents scored 1.02 in a short period of time. Our lads continued to hurl well, a long delivery into the 20 meter line was broken down by full forward Paddy Walsh onto the path of James McSweeney, James struck over a neat point. A pointed free from Peter Barrett was quickly followed by an excellent Daniel Garde point, our opponents then goaled again against the run of play quickly followed by a point which saw us chasing the game having played some excellent hurling, we needed a response, a long distance free from James found its way into the Sars net. Then Paddy Walsh struck for a goal, after a fierce battle inside the Sars 20 metre line James pointed again after excellent work from Cathraigh Cronin. Unfortunately we conceded another gaol. Half time ended with a scoreline Midleton 2.06 Sars 4.04. Sars got the first score of the second half then Callum McSweeney surged forward from the half back line splitting the posts for a beautiful point. Peter Barrett pointed a free and the industrious Eoghan Fraser despite playing with an injury goaled. A gaol mouth scramble saw Eoghan flash a ground shot past the Sars keeper, the large crowd in attendance were being treated to a top class display of hurling from both sides. Sars goaled again, we responded with a Darragh Egan free after Peter Barrett had been cynically fouled. Sars scored two more goals and a point but our lads kept their heads, James struck over another point from play quickly followed by another point from Eoghan. But try as we might we couldn’t breech the Sars goal. A rip roaring game ended on a score line of Midleton 4.11 Sars 7.08. Even though the result didn’t go our way the performance was excellent and was a reflection of the attitude of our lads on the day. Our Cork Primary schools representative Thomas Dunlea had a fine outing as did Cathraigh Cronin and Josh Carey.

Sunday morning we were on the road again with a trip to Ballyanly to play Inniscarra this time C3 Hurling League. The first half began with both sides going at it hammers and thongs, two super points from Odhran Dennigan set the tone. Inniscarra then had a period of dominance which yielded a point from play, great credit due to our defenders who kept the Inniscarra attack to just one score Sennan Gleeson, Josh Carey, Adam O’Connor and John Paul McManus who was rock solid at centre back. Then Callum O’Brien showed super skill in scoring another point, minutes later Callum was on hand again striking a great shot which found its way to the net. Callum playing a Captains part struck for another point before Gearoid Cashman showed some neat footwork to avoid two tackles before striking a lovely point. Half time score Midleton 1.05 Inniscarra 0.01. The second half began with a long range free from Sean McSharry finding the back of the net then Conor Morley who was having a fine game at mid field hit over a lovely point. Inniscarra were still battling hard but our defence held firm, Gearoid Cashman then struck for another goal, this put us in the driving seat. Jack Foley struck 3 well taken points on the trot one from free and two from play. To be fair to Inniscarra didn’t give up and after some intense goal moth action they struck for a well taken goal. But the last score came our way when the outstanding Conor Morley pointed from play. Well done to the lads on a well deserved victory but more importantly a good performance.

Our next fixture is in P1 Hurling V St Finbarrs in Midleton Tuesday 21st 7.30pm throw in.

Ladies Football

U10

On Monday evening we took the long road to Whitechurch to take on Rockbán. Having just 13 girls who were able to play our girls got stuck in right from the start. We were playing with the wind in the first half so we knew we needed to take advantage of this. Great teamwork ensured we got plenty of points on the board. In the second half the girls began to tire and not having any subs meant the girls had to dig deep. They never gave up and they kept the scores coming. A brilliant performance and a great team spirit. Well done to you all. This makes two wins from two. Thank You to the Parents for their fantastic encouragement from the sidelines. Team on the night: Sarah Goulding, Olivia McGrath, Amy Taft, Rebecca Botta, Eva Saunderson, Molly Barrett, Emma Noonan, Anna Burke, Ciara Hynes, Eva Pyne, Eve Fahy, Nora O Leary Hayes, Laura Murray.

U12

The u12's travelled to Erins Own to play another match in the league. On a beautiful sunny evening the girls began the match with great enthusiasm and within 10 mins had scored their first goal. They kept the score line ticking over with 5 pts and a great display of football until the end of the first half. In the second half Erins own got back in the game by scoring two goals in a short space of time. The Midleton girls didn't let this get to them and they put over another 3 pts. In the last five minutes they stuck another goal in the back of the net. A great display of football by both sides and a real enjoyable game.

Final score Midleton 2-8 to Erins own 2-0.

Minor Camogie League County Final

 Result: Midleton 3-10 Grenagh 4-7

After a Titanic hour of Camogie and in front of a large attendance, Midleton will need to do it all again if we are to win our first County Camogie Title at Minor Grade. Playing with a strong wind in the first half Midleton led 2-6 to 1-3 at the break. We held the lead all the way until the 2nd minute of Injury time when after a goal mouth scramble Grenagh bundled home the equalizing score. It was a tough finish for our girls but they all showed tremendous skill and great heart and determination, especially in the 2nd half when playing against the strong breeze. Great performances all round, especially by Yvonne Abernethy and Clara McCarthy in the backline, Lucy Wallis and Jodie Keegan O Connell around the middle of the field and goal scorers Sadhbh Beausang and Orla Evans up front. It’s great to have another County Final to look forward to and this super group of girls will give it their all again, of that there is no doubt. Time and Venue for Replay TBC.
