Fe12

On Saturday afternoon last, Mallow was the venue for the next round of the Premier 2 Football League. On what was a very wet and windy day. Conditions were not ideal for what turned out to be a very good game of football. From the throw in we set the tone. After a good passage of play involving Matthew Herbert and David Kelly, the ball came nicely to Matthew McSweeney who drilled it across the face of the goals, where the waiting  Cian Stack was on hand to score from close range. With this continuous pressure we then won a forty five, this was struck by Matthew Herbert and travelled all the way to the Mallow net leaving us two goals up after 10 minutes. The home side settled and began to chip away at our lead and only for some brilliant saves from goalkeeper Josh Foley, defending from captain Sean Crowley, Dara O Conchubhair and Darragh Cronin. The score could of been much different and after 15 minutes we lead by 2-0 to 5 pts. The lads battled hard throughout the half with Sean Crowley, Eoin Ahern, Peter Barrett, Josh Hogan and David Kelly winning vital possession. As the half due to a close Rory Hynes popped up after good passage of play to score a fantastic goal to leave us 3-0 to 5 pts up at the short whistle. This gave us great confidence going into the second half, but it was Mallow who kept the pressure on. Our backs stood strong when needed and our midfield pairing Nicky Coughlan and Matthew McSweeney worked tirelessly throughout. As the half wore on our forward began to win some vital possession. A pointed free from Josh Hogan and one from play from Rory Hynes kept the score board ticking over in our favour. Mallow piled on the the pressure but our backs lead by substitute Conor Finn, Peter Barrett, Eoin Ahern and Darragh Cronin stood strong. A special mention must go to Josh Foley who made countless saves and the scoreboard could have been a lot different at the end. At the final whistle a very tired but relieved Midleton team came away from Mallow with the league points which are not an easy thing to do. Well done lads.
