Vetting, Safeguarding & Coaching

As a club we are very proud of our levels of compliance with regard to Garda vetting, Safeguarding and coaching qualifications. Thanks to the cooperation and compliance of our coaches across the codes we have very little work to do in this area. However to maintain our previous good record some tasks need to be achieved before the new season well and truly gets off the ground

Garda Vetting

Any coach from all codes who are new to coaching for 2019 need to be Garda Vetted. This process is done through the Children’s Officers as per the individual code, that is Ber Kelly for LGFA and Ingrid Connaughton for Juvenile and Camogie.

The new E Vetting system has been in place for a number of years now. Anyone on the old system, that is, paper vetting needs to be E vetted. This system is much simpler than the old one. A number of current coaches are in this situation. Coaches are already aware of this and the Children’s Officers will be following up with this in the coming weeks. If this situation applies to you please contact your relevant children’s officer. Garda vetting is valid for 5 years and then needs to be renewed.

Safeguarding

This workshop was previously called Child Protection Awareness Training. This is also a mandatory requirement for coaches and any new coaches within the club will need to participate in this three hour workshop before commencing their role. This workshop looks at current legislation and good practice in relation to working with children and applies to anyone who has a player on their team who is under 18 years of age. To facilitate new coaches and coaches who may wish to brush up on their skills there will be a Safeguarding Workshop in the clubhouse on Thursday 7th Feb from 6.30 to 9.30pm. Places are limited and will need to be booked on a first come first served basis by texting Ingrid on 087 6374748.

Coaching Qualifications

To date coaching qualifications were not code specific; however from 2019 onwards they need to be. We have a number of coaches coaching across the codes so please make sure your qualification is relevant. Also if you haven’t done so already please present your relevant code with your coaching certificate. LGFA, Camogie and Juvenile will be following up with this in the coming weeks and where possible will facilitate on site workshops or if not in as close a location as possible.

Without the above you will be unable to commence with the new season so please contact those who can facilitate your compliance ASAP. Thank you all for your continued support without which we would not be in a position to achieve our Gold Standard which we are very proud of. Magpies ABU
