We started our League campaign when they travelled to Erin’s Own to play the first round of the league yesterday morning. It was a sunny morning and we started the first half playing against the wind. We started strong taking control of the game in the first ten minutes with a few chances on goal but Erin’s Own strong defence denied us a score on more than one occasion. We matched Erin’s Own across the pitch throughout the first half which wasn’t reflected on the score at half time. We had the advantage of the wind in the second half which went a long way to increasing our scores with the addition of some great balls being passed in from midfield. The girls put up a strong defence in the second half and the forwards showed some great determination and teamwork.  Erin’s Own came out on top on this occasion but our girls showed they are improving and learning from every match.
Team: Ella Murphy, Chloe Garde, Abbie Foley, Rachel McSweeney, Jill Connaughton, Rebecca Crowley, Anna Sheehan, Ruthi Hennessy, Aoife Fitzgerald, Holly Dugan, Aisling Kelleher, Emily Lambe, Tori Buckley & Emma O’Sullivan.

We played Rockban at home on Tuesday of last week. They took an early lead but a much better second half performance saw us score 3.04 in the opening ten minutes. A score line of 3.09 might win most matches but it wasn’t to be our night with a final tally of 9.01 to 3.09.  Well done to all involved on a huge effort.

Ladies Football
East Cork U14 League Final Midleton v Watergrasshill.

The scoreline does not reflect how tough a game it was. Watergrasshill did not make it easy for us. Our girls  played to their full potential and came out deserving winners. Well done to all involved and to the mentors.

We attended a Monster hurling blitz in Killeagh on Saturday. Thanks to the East Cork GDA Shane Supple for running it. It was attended by 36 teams resulting in 18 simultaneous games in action. We were very well represented with five teams, the most of any club. It was a great effort by the lads who all got three games each and left everyone on the pitch which was great to see. We had games against, Killeagh, Sarsfields, Watergrasshill, Carrigtwohill, Fr. O Neills, Youghal, Cobh, Castlelyons and Aghada.

Premier 1 Hurling League: Midleton 3-06 v Shandrum 0-05
Our lads had a busy week and started with a home game v Shandrum on Wednesday evening. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, we trailed at half time by 0-04 to 0-03 and needed to up our performance by a couple of gears. This team always improves in the second half of games and once again they tore into the opposition and worked very hard in every area. We kept the scoreboard ticking over with a point here and there, but three second half goals put us in a comfortable position to finish out as winners. Well done to goalie Dara Fitzgerald and our fullback line for conceding no goal and to Dave Cremin for reading the play like an old pro.

Premier 1 Hurling League: Midleton 1-10 v Ballygarvan 1-07
This was a game that would always provide our lads with a challenge and boy, it didn’t disappoint. We opted to play with a strong wind in the first half and this allowed us to punish Ballygarvan and lead at halftime by 1-05 to 0-02. The second half demanded hard work from every player, as we were playing against the wind and the might of Ballygarvan. Every player gave their all but things didn’t look comfortable when five mins from the end, the opposition drew level. However, this team are improving with every game, and always show character and got the necessary scores to pull away and achieve a great win by three points. This became our fourth hurling win on the trot, and none proved more satisfying and enjoyable than winning the Battle of Ballygarvan. Well done to Mikey Finn for taking his scores, to Riain de Barra for defending bravely and to Odhran Prenter for his big contribution to this group every week.
Panels from: Brian O’Connell, Conor O’Shea, Riain de Barra, Fionn Dalton, Conor Newcombe, Tiarnan Roche, Ashley O’Meara, Odhran Prenter, Ben Kenneally, David Cremin, David Green, Alex Moloney, Dara Scanlon, Caolan Dennigan, Eoin McGrath, Niall Lang, Cian Lamb, Daniel Coffey, Mikey Finn, Sean Fraser, Dara Fitzgerald, Diarmuid Murphy, Leo Kelleher & Tadhg Bohan.

Our third game of the season in the Premier 1 Hurling League was played versus Sars last Tuesday night in the Pike Field in Glanmire. A great rivalry has been built up between these teams over the last four years, so the Magpies were looking forward to their first big hurling test of the year. We have had a good start to the season with two wins from two games.
The conditions were very good for the game. The game was only on a short time when Darragh McCarthy popped the ball over the bar for our first score. This was quickly followed by points from Alex Quirke (2) Kelvin Barry (1) and Cian Murray (1). Ronan Gies then finished a long ball to the Sars net for our first goal of the evening. Sars came back into the game by scoring 1-03. We finished the half very strongly with a Darragh McCarthy scoring a point from a free, Alex Quirke scoring a goal straight from a sixty-five followed by another Alex point and last of the half was a point from Kelvin Barry. Half time score was Midleton 2-08 v Sars 1-03.
We started the second half with a goal from Kelvin Barry who followed it with a point. Alex Quirke finished our scoring with two points. As the game was coming to an end Sars grabbed two quick goals. The final score was Midleton 3-11 v Sars 3-03.
We played well on the night. Brion Saunderson in goals made one great save midway through the second half. The full back line of James, Fintan and Evan are starting the season very brightly. Ciarmhac, Adam and Neil controlled the majority of ball that came into their zone. Our lads will be very satisfied with their performance on the night.
Panel: Brion Saunderson, Even McCarthy, Fintan Greenwood, James O’Sullivan, Adam Fay, Ciarmhac Smyth, Neil Fitzgerald, Alex Quirke, Cian Murray, James Condon, Darragh McCarthy, Darragh Codd, Ronan Gies, Kelvin Barry, Rory Hartnett, Phelim Magan, Ben O’Neill, Evan Kelly, Craig Collins, Niall Corcoran, John Spellman & Daire Mooney.
