EAST CORK U-21 AHC
MIDLETON 1-18 SARSFIELDS 0-12
Our U-21 A team headed for Glenville on Monday night to take on Sarsfields in the semi-final of the U-21 AHC, in a repeat of last year's final, which we won be the narrowest of margins.
We got off to a grea start with a pair of David Cremin points and although Sars hit back, points from Peter Barrett and Alex Quirke had us 0-4 to 0-2 ahead after nine minutes.
Soon after Mikey Finn struck a point from a free and then he caught Sars off guard with an expertly taken goal from a free to put us 1-5 to 0-2 up afer 11 minutes. Mikey also added two of the next three points to have us up by seven with 23 minutes gone but Sars hit back with the next three white flags before Mikey struck for an injury-time free to put us 1-8 to 0-6 in front at the short whistle.
Sars struck for the opening point of the second-half before Cian Stack scored with his first touch after coming on at half-time and a Mikey Finn '65 saw us lead by 1-10 to 0-7 after 34 minutes.
Sars hit the next three points but then we hit back with three of our own, through Mikey Finn (2) and Peter Barrett to see us lead by six with a quarter of an hour to play.
Sars hit the next two white flags to come within four with 12 to play but credit to our outstanding defence, we held them scoreless for the rest of the game.
We finished in style with five points without reply from Mikey Finn (2), Rory Hartnett, Alex Quirke and Cian Stack to finish nine in front after what was a real battle. A great win to move us on to the East Cork Final for the second year in a row.
Scorers: Mikey Finn 1-9 (0-5 frees, 0-2 '65s), David Cremin, Alex Quirke, Peter Barrett and Cian Stack 0-2 each, Rory Hartnett 0-1.
MIDLETON: Bríon Saunderson, Thomas Dunlea, Adam Fay, Carthraigh Cronin, Rory Hartnett, Ciarmhac Smyth, Evan McCarthy, Alex Moloney, Evan McGrath, Darragh McCarthy, Mikey Finn, David Cremin, Peter Barrett, Dara Scanlon, Alex Quirke (Captain). Subs used: Conor Morley, Cian Stack, Eoghan Fraser, Cathal Beausang, Matthew McSweeney.
After weeks of uncertainty over semi-finals and no semi-finals, nomination, no nomination and coin tosses, all was made clear on Thursday night when the semi-final replay between Bride Rovers and Erins Own was not played (despite waiting for 35 minutes after throw-in time) due to fog. All this means that we have now been nominated to represent East Cork in the County Championship and that means that on Sunday coming (December 1) we will travel to the 3G pitch in Pairc Uí Chaoimh to take on Carbery champions Newcestown in the County semi-final at 12.30pm. Best of luck to all involved. This game will be followed by the second A semi-final between St. Finbarrs and Shandrum at 2.30pm.

PARK SOUTH UPDATE
The winter is truly with us this week, but work continues in Park South.
The grass on the sand-based pitch continues to grow and will see the benefit of further seeding in the Spring.
The c3,000 tonnes of rock taken out of the ground on-site has been crushed and size sorted to be re-used in the project. The base layer of stone has been spread on the 3G pitch platform with a final layer of smaller-sized stone ready to be applied. We will see further work over the coming weeks and are still on track for March completion of the 3G pitch.
The availability of the 3G pitch will represent a monumental milestone for the One-Club. The voluntary hard work that has gotten us this far in terms of fundraising and managing the facilities will ramp up as we see the whole Park South project to completion.
Current and past updates available at development

Waterford and Cork will play a Senior Hurling Challenge at Fraher Field on Saturday, January 4 in aid of former Déise hurler Brian Greene and Waterford Hospice.
Brian was diagnosed with cancer in May, 2022 and is currently undergoing treatment. The match was launched at The Park Hotel in Dungarvan last week. Tickets will be priced at €10. Throw in is at 5pm.
Greene achieved Munster glory with both Waterford and Mount Sion in 2002. The number seven fell to his knees at the final whistle when the Déise won their first provincial title in 39 years against Tipperary at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
Former Déise and Lismore forward Seán Daly has been one of the driving forces behind this event. “The GAA is a family organisation. When your family are in trouble, people rally around. For me, it’s supporting a friend. Plain and simple. No more than anybody else in the room here, we’re supporting somebody that wants our help right now. Let’s drive it on and make it a good night.”
Déise chairman Sean Michael O’Regan recalled Greene’s part in the 2002 Munster breakthrough. “The picture of Brian at the end of the game, that’s the way everybody was in the stands. The raw emotion that day after so many defeats, after so many years. To win a Munster final was huge and to have the Greene name associated with that was only fitting and proper.”
Current Waterford coach Dan Shanahan often marked the Mount Sion man in training. “If you got the better of Brian Greene, you were having a good night! I’m honoured to be here for such a good cause.” Players Austin Gleeson, PJ Fanning and Kieran Bennett as well as team secretary Ger Harris were also in attendance.
Cork coach and Cappoquin native Donal O’Rourke said that the Rebel players and management are happy to lend their support. “Whatever has to be done, we’ll do it. What Brian has, unfortunately has been under every roof in Ireland and has touched every family in Ireland.” Brendan Coleman, Ciarán Joyce, Niall O Leary and Ger Mellerick also represented Cork on the night of the launch.
