Juvenile

Fé12

On Sunday afternoon last in Clonmult Memorial Park. Our Fé 12 hurlers completed the hurling double, when we defeated Sars in the C3 County Final. From the first whistle the lads took the game to our opponents with Jake Kirby, Joey Moran, Ben Troy and particularly Josh Hogan very prominent. After ten minutes it was competitive with 3pts apiece. A period of dominance for the the Magpies followed after the opening exchanges. A Cian Stack free was followed by a Kirby point. The resulting puck out was won by Conor Finn at midfield and when the ball came to Hogan he rifled the ball to the net. This gave us a huge boost going into halftime and another Hogan point gave us a 1-06 to 3 pts lead at the short whistle. On the resumption picked up where we left off. Captain Rian O Driscoll, Eoin Hurley, Daniel Donovan and the impressive Noah Cahill driving the team forward. Firstly, Cahill scored a brilliant goal followed by two Stack frees. Sars hit back with 3 points but once Cahill got in for his second goal it was game over. Despite our opponents efforts, held firm. Our subs battled for every ball once the entered the fray, Tomas Geary, Tiago Fleming, Rory Hynes held firm at the back and Dara O Conchubhair, Patrick O Dowd and Conor Bennett to mention a few pushing for scores at every opportunity. A Cian Fitzgerald goal at the end was followed by the final whistle which sparked joyous scenes and the double had been done on a scoreline of 4-09 to 6 pts. Captain Rian O Driscoll, who missed out on the Premier 1 Final due to an injury a week earlier, accepted the cup on behalf of the team. It has been a fantastic year for this great bunch of lads. To win both hurling competitions is a credit to the commitment the have shown. They have become great friends on and off the field and we look forward to 2020 already. A big thank you to all the parents and supporters throughout the year and I personally would like to thank the other members of the management. It’s a big commitment to be there 45mins before games/ training, setting up pitches etc and still there a half hour after the games/ training chatting, picking up jerseys etc. The future is bright for our club and with new pitches, committed players, coaches and supporters we are definitely heading in the right direction. Thanks again to everyone. Magpies ABÚ.

U16County Final Replay

The Midleton girls took on Clonakilty again last Saturday in Castle rd. Camogie grounds. Again this turned out to be a very evenly balanced game with very little between the sides over the hour. Midleton led by 3 points at half time 1 03 to 03. Unfortunately from the throw in Clonakilty levelled with a quick goal. That goal gave Clonakilty real drive that we just could not match and hard as they tried Midleton could not get ahead. Clonakilty then got a fortuitous second goal close to the end that there was no way back from and Clonakilty ran out winners by 4 points after 120 minutes of superb Camogie. Overall the girls have had a fantastic run in this competition and can be very proud of their achievements. They will have learned a huge amount from these 2 games going forward. The girls now have a county semifinal in the league coming up and most are involved in the upcoming county minor semifinal. Thank you to all the Midleton support that came out over the 2 games. It was brilliant to see such a turn out for a great group of girls.
