Minor Championship

Our Minors travelled to the Mardyke on Wednesday evening to take on Ballincollig in the Semi Final of the Minor Championship. It was certainly a game of two halves and one not for the faint hearted ! Having gone in at half time with the score as Midleton 1-10 Ballincollig 0-05 we looked to have control of the game. Ballincollig came out in the second half all guns blazing looking to reduce the deficit and that they did. With minutes to go Ballincoillig went two points up but the never say die attitude of our Midleton players meant they fought for each and every ball and went on to win by 2 points.

Final score Midleton 2-18, Ballincollig 3-13.

Team Brion Saunderson, Ciarmhac Smyth, Dave Scanlon, Patrik Kane, Leo Hennessy, Christian Murphy , Charlie Walsh, Sam Quirke (-2), Gavin Reddy, Aaron Mulcahy (8,4f), Jack Fitzgerald (-1), Conor Fitzgerald , Paul Connaughton, (1-3), Cian Crowley(-1), Tim O Sullivan(1-2). Subs used  Alex Quirke, Darragh McCarthy (-1).

The final v Glen Rovers will take place in Pairc Uí Rinn on October 7th at 8.15pm.

Juvenile

Fé9

On Saturday morning last, we took to the field once again, as we travelled to Glanmire. On what was a difficult morning for football we had a group of very enthusiastic young magpies ready for action. It turned out to be a very tough, physical and competitive morning of games and ours lad's showed great commitment and skill throughout. Well done to all involved. Training will continue on Thursday at 7pm on the back pitch in the club.

Fé11

Our Fe 11 had a few very enjoyable outings in the last weeks. On Saturday 7th we had an early 7.30 am start for a bus trip to a tournament at St. Martins Gaa club in Wexford. 33 giddy hurlers enjoyed the trip down to the sunny south east and were ready to go once the games began. We had two teams with each one getting to play 4 quality games of hurling against opposition from Wexford, Kilkenny, Waterford and Dublin. All players got plenty of game time and enjoyed a number of very wins in competitive games. This was a very well event and great credit goes to the host club. On Saturday 21st we were at home to St. Michael's in Rebel Og football. Again a great turnout of 37 players. Despite a change in weather which resulted in breezy and slippy ball due to showers it didn't bother the lads. They produced some very good football resulting in some lovely scores in particular some great team movement and well worked points. Good to see some of the training coming to fruition during the games. Keep it up lads.

Fé12

On Saturday afternoon last, we hosted our annual James O Brien Hurling tournament. On the day we had St Finbarr’s, Inniscarra and Midleton to battle it out in a series of round robin games. First up we played St Finbarr’s in a tough encounter. Throughout the game the Barr’s put it up to us. Some good performances from Ben Troy, Darragh Cronin, Josh Hogan to mention a few. We managed to come out 2-09 to 1 pt winners. The scoreline did not do the Barr’s justice. The second game was between The Barrs and Inniscarra. This was a feisty affair, with some good tough hurling. The Barr’s made up for their missed chance against Midleton and ran out 2-05 to 1-06 winners. Third game was between Midleton and Inniscarra. This also was a tense and feisty affair with Inniscarra needing to win to have any hope of lifting the cup. Midleton started well, but with scores hard to come by, Inniscarra were always close. We had some excellent performances from the half back line of Matthew McSweeney, Nicholas Coughlan and Darragh Cronin. Despite the efforts we were 3pts to 1pt down at halftime. We started the second very well scoring three points without reply. This put us in a good position but Inniscarra to their credit kept coming at us. They persisted and they scored 1-03 without reply. Leaving us with an uphill battle.  A goal from a Peter Barrett free, followed by a Cian Stack point left us two points down heading into the final minute. Try as we might we could not get the scores. At the final whistle Inniscarra prevailed on a scoreline of 1-07 to 1-05. With all three teams winning one game it was down to score difference. Thankfully Midleton prevailed as we scored more in both games. There was great joy and the tournament turned out to be a great success. Captain Peter Barrett accepted the cup from the O Brien family with joyous scenes from the players. Our C3 team also played Inniscarra in the trophy final. This was another cracking game of hurling with some outstanding performances from our players. Captain Eoin Hurley who was inspirational, he was ably assisted by David Kelly who scored a brilliant goal, Daniel Donovan chipped in with three vital points, Tiago Fleming, Joey Moran and Conor Bennett to mention a few of what was a brilliant team effort. This has put some cups and medals on the table for our awards night in a few months time. A big thank you to the Parents for the support of the team and everyone who helped out on the day with teas, coffees etc. We have Premier 1 and C3 county semi finals to look forward to in the coming two weeks. The C3 vs Ballincollig on Sunday the 29th at 4pm in Midleton. Premier 1 Vs Douglas on Sunday October 6th at 11.30am in Douglas.

Ladies Football

U10

On Saturday our U10 girls travelled to Cloyne to attend a blitz kindly hosted by Cloyne Ladies Football. There were plenty of matches on offer with Carrigtwohill and St Colemans also in attendance. Playing 10 a side it meant that each girl had plenty of game time and had the opportunity to play in various positions. Thankfully the weather for most of the afternoon was good for us. Camogie

The U10’s were in Aghada last weekend for the penultimate round of the Imokilly blitz series. The girls excelled in games against Carrigtwohill, Killeagh and the hosts Aghada. Thanks to Aghada for hosting us and for the very welcome refreshments afterwards. Thanks also to the parents for the great support. Next up for the girls is a home game against St Catherines next Sunday.

Well done to our U14 team who bowed out of the U14A Cup Championship quarter final on Sunday 15th September v a strong Sars team. The girls showed great heart from start to finish and their work rate was excellent. A huge achievement to get to the final 8. Good luck to Sars in the sem-final.

The U7/8 girls travelled to Dungourney last Sunday 15th Sept to play the last match in the FE 7/8 Camogie Go Games. Midleton had 3 teams who played between 3 & 4 games each against teams from Dungourney, Aghada & Carrigtwohill. All three Midleton teams did great in each of their matches, showing improving skills in terms of passing the ball, holding field positions & marking their opponents. It was a great day for everyone & thanks to Dungourney for being great hosts & surprising all teams with the ice cream van turning up at the end of the matches! We are nearing the end of our outdoor training for this season & will move indoors in the next few weeks. Details will be issued to parents.

Well done to our U12 girls who battled against Valley Rovers in the County Final which was played in Cork Camogie Grounds in Castle Road on Saturday 21st September. Midleton were down at the end of the first half but turned it around in the second half resulting in a draw game! Again the girls dug deep and were in the lead with seconds to go only for the opposition to score ! Unfortunately we didn’t come away with the result we hoped for . A fantastic game of Camogie and the girls should be so proud of themselves to have reached a county level! Well done girls and to their management. Congratulations to Valley Rovers on the win!
