Midleton Hurling & Football, Ladies Football & Camogie Club NEWS

18 February, 2018

Post Primary School Hurling
Disappointingly last Saturday afternoon in Mallow the Midleton CBS senior hurlers went down to a very good Ard Scoil Rís side in the Dr Harty Cup final losing out by 3-18 to 2-10.
Before a crowd of 3,000 the Limerick side were dominant for most of the game and never looked in trouble from start to finish. Midleton did battle on late in the second half with two goals but Ard Scoil were always able to keep them at a distance with some fine point taking.
As Munster runners up CBS now take on the Leinster runners up on the 3rd of March, time and venue to be decided.
Team: Alan Power (Midleton), Dylan Hogan, Sean O’Sullivan (Midleton), Eoghan O’Sullivan, Aaron Walsh Barry, Sean O’ Leary Hayes (Midleton – joint Capt), Jamie Landers, Ger Millerick, Kian Farmer (Midleton), Daragh Moran, Liam O’Shea, Liam Gosnell, Arthur Nganou (Midleton), Joe Stack & Cathal Hickey. Subs used Gary Carroll (Midleton), Olan Broderick & Mark Mc Carthy.
Referee Fergal Horgan of Tipperary.

On Sunday last the Cork senior hurlers were well defeated by Clare in Cusack Park Ennis in Round 3 of the League by 0-23 to 0-19, the scoreline slightly flattering Cork as they trailed at halftime by 0-16 to 0-05. Rebel Og Coaching Benchmarks 2020
Rebel Óg Coaching Benchmarking 2020 was successfully launched in early 2015 and provide a template for best practice in coaching, promoting maximum participation and optimal playing standards in juvenile clubs throughout Cork city and county. The programme includes minimum requirements for entry, with subsequent progression to Bronze, Silver or Gold targets, which clubs would strive to achieve with the assistance of their local GDA. Bronze criteria are based on establishing a primary school coaching and games programme in schools within a club’s catchment area. Silver criteria are based on an appropriate programme of club coaching and games for 5-12 year olds, while Gold criteria are based on appropriate coaching and games for 13-18 year olds.
Kevin O’ Callaghan, Cork Games Development Manager paid a particular word of thanks to all club coaching officers who work so hard to improve coaching standards and structures in their respective clubs.  Martin Mc Sweeney Midleton’s Coaching Officer has undertaken a tremendous amount of work together with all our juvenile coaches and juvenile committee members to achieve gold.  The accredited clubs have been invited to a Benchmarking workshop in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday 24th of February to receive our award,  practical sessions in both codes will be delivered by Jason Ryan and Kieran Kingston and all coaches in attendance will get an opportunity to share ideas with other clubs and coaches. A very well done to all involved, for more information on Benchmarking and details on the other clubs who were awarded bronze, silver and gold please visit
