Midleton Hurling & Football, Camogie & Ladies Football News

30 July, 2017

Championship Fixtures
At the time of writing we have no dates for any of our Hurling Championship games, our minors & Junior B’s still await their opponents, our Fe21s are provisionally fixed for the 15th v Douglas but neither or Intermediates nor Seniors know our next opponents and when we will be playing.

Munster U21 Hurling Championship
Seanaidh Smyth was part of the Cork U21 panel who were defeated last Wednesday evening in the Munster final by Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds on a score of 0-16 to 1-11. Despite being without senior players Daragh Fitzgibbon and Luke Meade, Cork put up a brave effort.

All Ireland Fe17 Hurling Championship
Well done to Tommy O’ Connell (0-02) half forward, Sean O’ Sullivan an used substitute and Donal Burke selector all part of the Cork U17s who defeated Galway last Thursday in a very exciting All Ireland semi final in Thurles by 1-19 to 1-17. They now play Dublin in the final on Sunday next at 12 in Croke Park before the All Ireland semi finals minor Galway v Kilkenny & Tipperary v Galway in the senior. Best of luck lads.

Michael “Bonzo” Tobin Memorial Cup
This coming Saturday our Intermediate hurlers will travel to Knockanore Waterford to take on our hosts The Shamrocks in a challenge game in memory of the late Mick “Bonzo” Tobin.
The game will take place at 7pm and there will be a bus leaving the Club from 5.30pm sharp with limited availability, anyone interested in travelling on it please contact either Liam Ryan or Coleman Quirke as soon as possible.

Back in 1992 our Junior Footballers won the East Cork title, having defeated Ballinacura, St Catherines and Cobh before over coming Carrigtwohill in the final in Watergrasshill by 1-07 to 0-07. In the county we defeated both Douglas and Doneraile before going down to Urhan in the final after three games (two replays) in Ballingeary by 1-06 to 0-03.
Team v Carrigtwohill: Matthew Burke, Michael Boylan, Jim O’Sullivan, Darren Lee, Eamonn Crotty, Vincent O’Neill, Peter Smith, Denis Mulcahy, Niall O’Neill (0-03), Cormac Quirke, Colm O’Neill (0-04), John Boylan, Kevin Morrison, Eamonn Murphy & Kevin Hennessy. Subs used Paul Moynihan (1-00) & Michael White.

Around this time the same year the Cork senior hurlers defeated Down in the All Ireland semi final by 2-17 to 1-11, Ger Fitzgerald captained the team which also included Denis Mulcahy, Kevin Hennessy, Ger Manley and substitute Pat Hartnett.

Cork GAA Club’s Draw
As this year’s Cork GAA club’s draw is nearing conclusion we would be grateful if all outstanding money could be paid to Steve Sheehan, John Fenton or any club officer.

Ladies Football
Junior Championship v Aghada
Very hard luck to a very young junior team who made a very strong Aghada Team work hard for a win on Monday night last in the County championship. It was a very entertaining contest which we will learn and grow from. Well done girls. Training continues in the Tech Pitch on Monday night for all age groups from 6-8pm.
Orlagh Farmer Midleton and Cork Ladies Footballer will coordinate a Football Camp on Monday Aug 14th to Thursday 17th from 10-2pm in Midleton Gaa Club. There will Cork and Minor Cork Ladies helping out at the camp. Please contact Orlagh to book your place on 086-3589870. Anyone who completes the camp will receive a training top.

Camogie
U7/U8 - On Saturday last we took part in a blitz in Castlemartyr. Fielding two teams we played Carrigtwohill, and Castlemartyr.  Every girl played with heart and enthusiasm, the future of Midleton Camogie is certainly safe. A big thank you to our supporters, coaches, referees and of course to our great hosts Castlemartyr Camogie Club.

U9/U10 - We travelled again this weekend for a blitz, this time it was the short distance to Castlemartyr.  With a great turn of Magpies we fielded two teams and swapped subs on and off.  We played Castlemartyr, Dungourney, Youghal and Killeagh.  It was a terrific performance from our girls as they once again we played with great heart and commitment, with the basic skills of the game being executed to a very high standard and with some very well taken scores.  A great day was had by all thanks to Castlemartyr for hosting.  Magpies abu !

U13 - We met Sars in the semi-final of the Imokilly B Cup league on Tuesday evening last in Ballinacurra. We came up against a very skilful Sars team, despite a valiant effort from our girls Sars came out on top. Best of luck to Sars in the Final.

Juvenile

Fe 14
Football Challenge: U14 Midleton 8-04  v U13 Midleton 8-05
To prepare for their Rebel Og football semi-final v Bantry our U13 footballers had a run out against their U14 counterparts at Clonmult Park on Sunday morning July 30th. The U14s will be lining out against Douglas in their football championship later in the summer. The game was very competitive throughout. All the players at these two age groups have an abundance of football in them and this was very much on display during this match. The score line was very close at all times and at the final whistle the U13 held on for a one point victory. Finally the very best of luck to the U13s in the Bantry match on Wednesday evening.

Midleton GAA 2nd Cul Camp of the Summer 2017
Our second Cul Camp of the summer takes place in the Club from Tuesday the 8th of August to Friday the 11th of August (please note that Monday is a bank holiday and the camp start day is Tuesday). The camp coordinator is Ingrid Connaughton.  The camp will run each day from 10am to 2.30pm and is open to both boys and girls.  As with our previous camp in July the Club has requested gear to be delivered to the club in advance of the camp.  It is hoped that parents will be able to collect their children’s gear from the club shop on Friday the 4th of August between 6.30 and 7.30pm. A text will be issued and posts put up on Facebook and Twitter to confirm to parents if the gear is available for collection.
For those yet to book, bookings can still be made on line up to Monday the 31st of July.  Bookings can also be taken on the morning of the camp but please note that bookings made after the 31st of July are not guaranteed to receive the gear.  The cost for a child attending a second camp, without receiving the kit and bag is €35.00. We have already taken in over 100 bookings for this second camp and would encourage those interested in attending to book early to ensure your sons or daughters place at the camp.

Lost & Found
There are a considerable number of training tops, sweatshirts, water bottles and football gloves in the lost and found baskets in the club shop.  Please call in to the shop and recover any items your child may have left behind after training.
