Fe11
Our footballers lined out in thoroughly dreadful conditions at Mallow on Saturday, 1st of November for the conclusion of the Rebel Og Football League. First up was Na Piarsaigh. The Midleton boys played with the wind and settled very early. At half time they had a commanding lead and held out to beat the city side on a score-line of Midleton 7-7 v Na Piarsaigh 4-7.
The finals against Glanmire turned out to be two cracking matches. The conditions had deteriorated further but the boy’s response was to up the standard of football. Midleton were able to hold the upper hand right through to the end of the games and so became the Fe11 champions for 2014 on a score line of Midleton 7-4 v Glanmire 5-4. On the day we were represented by very committed players, dedicated mentors and enthusiastic parents. Everyone involved with this panel deserved the win and here’s to many more in the future.
Fe12
Our Fe12 hurlers took to the field for our annual James O Brien Hurling Blitz.Four teams Midleton, Ballincollig, Dungarvan and Fermoy were the chosen teams for this year’s Blitz. After three highly entertaining qualifying games that saw some absolutely outstanding hurling from all teams, it was Midleton and Ballincollig who were to contest this year’s final. Great skills of the game was in evidence from the start, hooking blocking and bodies on the line, bruised and battered didn’t stop these lads from contesting what was to become a great final. Twenty minutes a side was the order for the final and after playing with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half it was Midleton who led at half time by 2-3 to 4pts.On with the second half and as the book says it’s a game of two halves! Scores were swopped for the first 10 min’s of this half, but one could see it was Ballincollig who were starting to turn the screw, scoring two goals and threatening our goal time after time, hitting the crossbar twice, as the game moved into its final minutes, it looked as if this was going to be another disappointing day for our lads, after suffering defeat in both semi final’s of the league in Hurling and Football already, and numerous blitzes but one thing this team have in abundance is guts and with one last throw of the dice again bodies on the line and as luck would have it, bang goal to great cheers from the Midleton side line and supporters. Ball pucked out and referee Pa Beausang called time, Midleton by 1pt on a score line of 3-7 to 2-9 on what was a great game to watch for the this time of year. Magpies Abu.
Captain Jack Fitzgerald collected the James O Brien Cup first time in 5yrs on behalf of all 38 players on the Midleton U12 Hurling teams from Jim and Ger O’ Brien representing the O’ Brien family. Again we would like to thank the clubs Ballincollig, Fermoy and Dungarvan who took part in our blitz and made it a day to remember, well done to all players and coaches involved. Special mention to our two referees on the day Pa Beausang and Paul Britton without guys like these in a club you wouldn’t have a club. They didn’t have to be there but they were. Thanks lads.
And last but not least we the coaches involved with the Fe12 teams would like to thank, Alan Donegan and the parents from both our teams who again covered themselves in glory providing Soup, Sandwiches, Cakes etc for the very tired and hungry players and supporter’s, this isn’t a once off as every Saturday these ladies do the same after training. Ladies take a bow and well earned rest as this was the last day of the Fe12 year and it was great to go out on a high.
Remember Juvenile Social is on Saturday December 13th in Pavillion.
