Fe14
In what can only be described as a "remarkable week" for Midleton U14 Footballers, we find ourselves in the Premier 2 County Football final scheduled for June 28th against Carbury Rangers at (possibly) Pairc Ui Rinn.
Having received a "bye" in the first round, we played Bandon at Ballinure on last Monday night. In miserable wet weather we beat Bandon by 4-7 to 2-3. Our lads played great stuff here with loads of support running on / off the ball. Our work rate was superb and this more than anything else was the difference between the teams.
On Saturday then we faced the highly fancied Tomas Russell's ( Kilshannig) at Blarney. Kilshannig raced into an early lead scoring points at will. They held a strong command of affairs at midfield and powered forward from here, always looking dangerous in attack but kicking too many wides. Nevertheless once Midleton got the ball into our inside forwards, we had the Kilshannig backs in all sorts of trouble. Eventually it was our ability to get goals that saw us through. The key moment in the game though was on 28mins, when the dominant Kilshannig midfielder was very unlucky to get a straight "Red Card" for a clumsy challenge when the score was Midleton 3-3, Kilshannig 1-9. A minute later Midleton had another goal leaving us up 4-3 to 1-9 at HT. Midleton were dominant in the Second Half and only for some excellent defending by the Kilshannig backs and wayward shooting by the Midleton forwards the winning margin could have been greater. This game also doubled up for League points leaving us on 8 points after 5 games.
We play a hurling league game away V Blackrock on next Monday night and then as Cork Feile Champions we play in the Regional Feile Hurling finals in Thurles next Sat 21st.
