Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Fe21
Last Saturday evening our Fe21 footballers went very close to pulling off a memorable victory in the East Cork A Championship semi final v Glanmire. The game took place in The Pike Sallybrook and was a very close fought one throughout with the home team just about taking the honours in the end. In the first half we dealt well with some early pressure and gradually established ourselves in the game, although we missed some easy scoring chances we trailed only by the bare minimum at halftime by 0.04 to 0.03.
Again the second half was end to end stuff, we spurned some early chances but battled on brilliantly to the very end when only a single score separated the sides at the final whistle. The players and indeed the selectors Padraig Dalton, Eoin Ferriter, Jerome Curtin, Cristeoir O Cashaigh and Denis Mc Sweeney can feel very proud of their outstanding efforts. Final Score: Glanmire 0.10 v Midleton 0.07
Team: Josh Deady, Alan Stanton, Gavin Bagnell, Seanaidh Smyth, Elliot Mulcahy, Leslie Coughlan, Billy O Shea, Patrice Tschmanga, Kieran Maloney, Andrew Rea, Padraig O Farrell, Sean O Farrell, Darren Quirke, Patrick White & Coran Swayne. Subs used Jack Enright, Calem Deady & Bryan Rossiter, not used Kevin Rohan & Luke Finnerty.

Killeagh led by a goal at halftime 0-10 to 1-10 but in the second half a late rally by ourselves earned a share of the spoils. Final score: Midleton 0.20 v Killeagh 1.17 Team: Tommy Wallace, Elliot Mulcahy, Alywin Kearney, Killian Burke, Seamus O Farrell, Finbar O Mahony, Leslie Coughlan, Peter Dowling, Paul Haughney, Padraig O Keeffe, Aidan Ryan, Cormac Walsh, Patrick White, Patrick O Mahony & Sean O Farrell.
Best wishes to Kieran Mulcahy who suffered a very nasty injury recently.

Juvenile Notes

Fe12
Our Central 3 Footballers lost last Sunday afternoon away to Nemo Rangers and our Premier 2 Footballers defeated Fermoy away last Saturday. On Sunday morning last our hurlers welcomed Oulart the Ballagh from Wexford to Midleton and in near perfect conditions both teams gave an exhibition of hurling. The parents had laid on a fabulous spread of food and refreshments for both teams to enjoy after the game. Later our visitors travelled onto Pairc Ui Rinn for the Allianz League game Cork v Wexford. We hope in the near future to pay a return visit to Wexford.

Fe14
Last Saturday at Mallow GAA Complex, our U14 Feile Footballers bowed out of this years competition, despite winning two games and drawing our third game.
Midleton’s first game was against Premier 1 side Mallow, where the game was in balance up to the final kick of the game, when Mallow scored a pointed free to tie the game at the final whistle on a score of Midleton 0-3: Mallow 0-3. The second game was against Blarney and we suffered badly with injuries to 3 players. Yet we won out on a scoreline of Midleton 5-6 to Blarney 2-0. In the final game V Bride Rovers, we again won this game 5-5 to 4-2, but Mallow having also beaten Bride Rovers and Blarney, finished with less scores conceded, and thus qualified for the next round. Team: Jake Shanahan, Alan Power, Ciaran Evans, Christian Murphy, Mark Daly, Ross O Regan, Evan Rowlands, Kian Farmer, Cian Murray, Gary Carroll, Tommy O Connell, Griffin Hurley, Adam O Connell, Sean O Sullivan, Fergus Wade, Coleman Quinn, Craig Barry, Ross Shanahan, Ronan Lynch, Cormac O Brien.

Fe16
Our footballers defeated Fermoy away last Friday night, we play Aghada this Monday in football and have a hurling challenge game away to Killeagh Ita’s this Wednesday.
We would like to wish the Midleton CBS Fe16 1/2 hurlers the very best in the All Ireland final next Saturday against Kilkenny CBS.

St Patricks Day Parade
On Monday the 17th of March St Patricks Day our Juveniles turned out in large numbers to march in the parade. This year the Grand Marshal was our own club legend Kevin Hennessy who led the parade in a horse drawn carriage up the main street. Our juveniles followed with their team members as a huge crowd gathered on the main street. We marched back to the Clubhouse where there were refreshments for both juveniles and their parents. Many thanks to the parade committee for organising another great day and to the parents who brought food to the Clubhouse where a huge crowd gathered for what turned out to be a great day had by all. Thanks to Alan and the Bar staff in the Clubhouse on the day.
