Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

All Ireland Hurling Semi Final
After seven years of wondering what might be, we’re back in the All Ireland Hurling final on the 8th of September against the winners next week’s semi final between Clare and Limerick which will ensure an all Munster final.
Having gone into the game as underdogs against a much fancied Dublin team we managed to overcome the Dubs on a score of 1.24 to 1.19 driven on by a huge Cork crowd amongst the attendance of 62,000.
Well done to Luke and Conor on their fabulous contribution of 5 points from play and to the rest of the Cork panel and management, we now can look forward to the build up and excitement over the next number of weeks.

All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final
Cork v Clare/Limerick on Sunday, September 8th @ Croke Park, 3.30pm
Exciting times ahead!! All information relating to the All-Ireland Final will be posted here on the website between now and September 8th.
A press event will be held in advance of the final, details will announced later.
Tickets for All-Ireland Finals are not available for general sale. Season Ticket holders who have met the criteria will be allocated an All-Ireland Final ticket as per normal. Clubs will also receive an allocation of tickets for the Final, and for details on how to apply for these, contact your local club.
Post-Match Reception
The Corkman's Association in Dublin will host the post-match reception for the team and supporters at the DT Dublin Hotel (formerly The Burlington) on the evening of September 8th. Further details will be posted here as soon as arrangements have been finalised.

Senior Hurling Championship
Our Championship fixture against Bride Rovers is fixed for Sunday next 18th August in Pairc Ui Chaoimh @ 2.30pm. We wish the players and management the very best of luck and hope that their hard training and efforts over the last number of months will get us over the line against a very experienced and resilient opposition.

Junior Hurling
In Junior A we are fixed to play St Ita’s in the quarter final of the Championship next Saturday evening in Shanagarry @ 7pm. This fixture date has not been met with any great satisfaction by our club. Despite having last played back on the 12th of July and having since been available to play on any date we find ourselves playing the evening before our Senior hurling championship game.
Players, mentors, officers and indeed supporters now face preparing themselves for two games in less than 48 hrs and only 17 hours apart, consideration and fairness, I don’t think so.

Memorial Plaque
Last Tuesday evening at the GAA Club family and friends of both the late William “Matey” Hennessy and Michael “Mick” Lordan gathered to mark the unveiling of a memorial plaque in their honour. The Hurling & Football committee some time ago decided to replace the barrier overlooking the pitch with a new structure and as this area was synonymous with these two men it was agreed to mark the occasion.
Fr. Denis Kelleher very kindly blessed the area and afterwards everybody returned to the Club pavilion for refreshments.

BINGO for all every Friday night in the GAA Pavilion from 8pm, guaranteed Jackpot of 1,000 euro!!

Dancing in the GAA Club each Saturday night, last week saw another great night with Dave Rea and on August 17th we welcome the Tony Bird.

Lotto
Our Jackpot was €2,400 last week, 3,19,26 & 27, we had no winner, the Lucky dip winners were Marie Devlin, Margaret Mc Alesse, Clive Seale, Dave O Brien Jnr & Gavin Power, next week’s Jackpot is €2,600.

Fe11 & 15s visit Dublin
Midleton’s Finest hit Croke Park
We left Midleton Gaa club bound for Dublin at 7am on Sunday 11th of August for the eagerly awaited clash between Cork and Dublin. For the winner’s a place in the All Ireland Final for the Loser’s a long dark winter ahead wondering will they ever again get such a chance. The Banter on the bus as always on a day like this started early and before we had left Midleton I can safely say Ian "Ron" O Brien was asking himself why he didn’t stay at home. Firstly he had Gavin (Speake) Power start on him about his Hawaii Five O shirt he had on, and then all the rest of the Trojan’s giving stick about the Curls you should have seen them. (What Curls) well done Pauline they really were beautiful. Anyway enough of that and onto the day ahead .We stopped off in Portlaoise for a cuppa and a bite to eat at 9:15 and back on the road again for 9:45 heading for Ballyboden St Endas Gaa grounds where we had Three games organized against Ballyboden. First up the Fe11s in the home pitch and the Fe15s down the road in another. On the day as it turned out we had a lot of Fe10s with us so we kept them together for one game and all Fe11s for the other. To their credit all the Lad’s put in a mighty shift and ran out comfortable winner’s in the end. Their was some great performances seen from both these games which leaves one to think that in a couple of years we might be returning to Croke Park to see some of these Lad’s wearing the Cork colors’ here’s hoping. Down the road the Fe15s who are only back a few weeks training had a great workout for the hour running out winner’s on a scoreline of 3-14 to 3-8, Anyone following these lad’s over the last number of years know their time is coming and hopefully with a bit of luck and hard training this year could be the start. On into the Clubhouse where the Parent’s of the Ballyboden St Endas Player’s put on a mighty spread of Sandwiches, Cakes, Biscuit’s etc. Their hospitality was second to none and a big thank you goes to all at the Ballyboden St Endas Gaa club who helped out in making this a day to remember. We hope we can return the favour. Back onto the Bus heading across the Liffey to Croke Park you could see there was a huge Cork following around. You could sense the Rebels need to make the breakthrough, Seven years is too long to wait. Off the bus and down the road to Croker and the Chairman calls for another Roll call, (Hill Street Blues Lorenzo). Into the ground the Davin stand and to see the look on the Lad’s faces, mesmerized. The Ball is in and the game is on, What a game of Hurling to be there to witness and I'm sure with the amount of kid’s that were in attendance for this game it will be remembered for a long long time to come by them. Come on ye boys in Blue was drowned out with chants of Rebels Rebels. Congratulation’s to Cork and to Conor Lehane and Luke O Farrell on their performances on Sunday and roll on next Sunday for more of the same when Midleton play Bride Rover’s in the Cork County Senior Hurling Championship. And last but not least the trip home (Lost) we're not lost, Ian O Brien just wanted to show us parts of Dublin that haven’t been seen before by anyone i'd say. Food, did you ever hear of the one (I Know a place where!) Nobody knows this place only the 2000 people who came down the road in front of us, how bad, a great day was had by all the lad’s and great memories no doubt.
Roll on the Final. Come on the Rebels, Thank’s again to Ballyboden St Endas for having us.

Fe 16
Our hurlers are awaiting the name of their next opponents in the Rebel Og Premier 2 Championship which is provisionally fixed for next Saturday.
