Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Last Man Standing
We're almost there, Last Man Standing is down to the final three, all that awaits is the final places, good luck to Michael Crotty, Brendan Mackey and Damien Garde with next weeks selections, may the best man win.

Senior Hurling
Our Senior Hurlers played Sarsfields last Saturday evening in the RedFM League and after a great start were defeated in the end by 3-13 v 2-19, two late goals from the visitors and tired legs from Junior football the night before were the contributing factors in the end.
Team: Tommy Wallis, Alwyn Kearney, Patrick O Mahony, Finbar O Mahony, Eoin Walsh, Peter Dowling, Seamus O Farrell, Leslie Coughlan, James Nagle, Padraig O Keeffe, Padraig O Shea, Paul Haughney, Kieran Mulcahy, Oisin Cotter & Patrick White. Subs used Padraig O Farrell & Declan Ryan.

Junior Football
In Killeagh last Friday evening we played Dungourney in the back door of the above championship.
We led for most of the game until the final quarter when they broke us down and led by 0.06 to 2.02 but with a late rally we scored 1-04 without reply to win by 1-10 to 2-02. Well done to all involved, we now play Youghal this weekend in the next round.
Team: Brian Behan, Liam Clohessy, Barry Fitzgerald, Brian O Sullivan, Seamus O Farrell, Leslie Coughlan, Patrick O Mahony, Peter Dowling, Patrice Tschmanga, Padraig O Shea, Kieran Mucahy, Patrick White, Declan Ryan & Willie O Brien
Sub used Kelvin Kruschel for Patrice Tschmanga.

Minor Hurling
Last Saturday afternoon our Minor hurlers played Douglas at home in the Premier 1 Rebel Og Minor Hurling League, the visitors got off to a good start with the aid of the breeze and led by 2-10 v 0-07 at halftime. A brave second half performance brought us to within a single point only for a late goal from them which closed out the game.
Final Score: Midleton 2-15 v Douglas 3-16.

Juvenile Notes

In Brief
Feile was the big event last week with our Fe14 team making the trip to Mallow. There was a great outcome with wins over Watergrasshill, Mallow and Ballincollig. The lads are next up in Coachford to play St Vincents in the A Quarter Final on Wednesday.
Our Fe 16’s defeated Erins Own on a scoreline of 4-16 to 1-08 in the Premier 2 Central hurling league.
Our Fe 15’s defeated Killeagh away and lost to Na Piarsaigh in the Premier 1 Central hurling league game at home in poor conditions. Midleton played most of the game with 14 players following an injury.

Fe 13
The U13s continued on their winning ways with a "dogged" win at home in this 3rd Round football league game V Sam Maguires on a scoreline of 5-4 to 3-8. A goal and a point in the last 3 minutes saw us take the points. We now have 3 wins from 3. The lads showed great heart and commitment to win this tough encounter.

Fe 11 Hurling League Midleton v Sars
Our League campaign got underway on a very wet and blustery Sat at home against
Sars. In all we had Thirty one players and Sars travelled with Twenty Five, It was
Decided we would play two eight a side and one game of nine a side. The most important thing in these games is that every player gets the same game time so with the extra few players we rotated players on and off every five min’s. A fantastic hour
Of Hurling was witnessed by anyone who braved the elements and every player played their part. Game A started and finished in what can only be described as a war of attrition by two great bunch of lads no quarter asked nor given from anyone. Again some great performances from our lads in this game Cian Keohane in goal was outstanding, Alex Quirke breaking out of defence and delivering great ball to the forwards, Patrick Kelly and Paul Connaughton working very hard for the ball and getting some great scores. In the end Midleton won this game on a scoreline of 4-4 tom 2-1.In Game B we started very slow and Sars punished us for some very sloppy play getting four goals and a few points before we knew the game had started. When we realised we were in a game we started to play hurling and again had great displays from Daniel Cagney, Patrick Kane and Darragh Crowley but in the end it was Sars who ran out winners in this game on a scoreline of 8-5 to 4-4.
Game C started well for our lads getting some good scores early and contesting every ball then Sars upped the tempo and try as our lads did it was Sars who ran out winners on scoreline of 6-4 to 3-2. James Coffey, Liam Kelly and Evan Mc Carty were the best for the Magpies.
Well done to all the lads Midleton and Sars who turned up and gave it their all in what was a great hour of Hurling and keeping this great rivalry alive and well.

Saturday coffee mornings
With training back in action on Saturday mornings at the main pitch we have once again opened up the club lounge with free tea and coffee for parents of players. Why not drop in and meet up with parents from your childs team. Any parents who want to help serving the teas and coffees would be more than welcome.

Upcoming Juvenile Club Dates
The following dates may be of interest to parents.
• April 27th Mercy Hospital Charity Fun Walk
• July 1st to 5th Cúl Camp

Gum Shields
From the 1st of January 2013 it is now compulsory for juvenile players to wear gum shields (mouth Guards). The rule relates to both football training and matches. This ruling has come from GAA Headquarters and anybody not wearing a gum shield and who subsequently gets injured during a match or training session will not be covered by GAA insurance.
GAA recommended gum Shields can be purchased from our juvenile club sponsor Murphy’s Pharmacy in Midleton.
Please ensure that your child has a gum shield for every training session and game.

Training
Training times have recently changed for juvenile teams. The most up to date information can be found on the Juvenile Teams page on www.midletongaa.com For players from junior infants to Fe 9 please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
