GAA Healthy Club Project Launch
Pearse McCarthy & Jerome Curtin both travelled to Croke park on the 11th March to attend the launch of the GAA's Healthy Club Project. This new project was launched by Uachtaran CLG Liam O'Neill and Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health Tony Holohan.
The aim of the Project is to assist GAA clubs to respond to the health needs of their club members and provide a positive influence on the wider community we serve.
Below are some of the areas of health we hope to promote in Midleton GAA Club :
Healthy eating & diet
Drug & Alcohol awareness
Mental Well-being & resilience development
Suicide prevention
Promotion of health & well-being through physical activities
Activities for older & non playing members
We were one of eighteen clubs in Ireland picked after sending in our 'Expression of Interest Form' to Croke Park.
There was two mentor clubs on the day, St. Finbarrs of Cork and St. Peters of Warrenpoint who gave very comprehensive presentations on the benefits that they have gotten from participating in the Healthy Cub Project. Both mentor clubs gave us their ideas on how to strive to become a healthy club.
Along with the GAA's ASAP programme (alcohol substance abuse prevention) which we have up and running over the last couple of years we welcome this new initiative which has a very broad appeal to everyone.
We plan to form a Project Team over the next couple of weeks. We will get as much assistance needed from Croke Park which is a great help.
We'll be taking small steps to start by identifying areas where we can promote health & well-being and also we will do our best to improve what we are presently doing well.
More to follow soon on:

BINGO for all every Friday night in the GAA Pavilion from 8pm, everyone welcome.

Juvenile Notes

Fe 11 Football v Douglas Report Sat 16th March
After getting our league campaign off to a great start last week we were brought back down to earth with a bang against a very well drilled Douglas outfit. Again as is always the case we had a fantastic turnout of thirty six players so we had three teams of eleven with one rotating sub on each side. The games were played in the splendid Midleton CBS complex which is ideal for underage games. Again the lads gave it their all but to be honest Douglas were far better at the basics of football which they showed time and again running off the ball and always finding their man with the simple pass using the old saying let the ball do the work again this is down to coaching and truth to tell our lads haven’t seen a lot of the big ball. Again we had some great performances and but for a small bit of composure in front of goals all three games would have been a lot closer. At the end of the day it was Douglas who ran out comfortable winners in all three games on scorelines of Douglas 4-5 Mid 0-8, Doug 5-6 Mid 1-3, Doug 5-5 Mid 2-4.
Parents please ensure that your son has a Gum shield as we do not want to
Disappoint any lad by telling him he can’t play.

St Patricks Day Parade
In what is now an annual event, the Juvenile section of the club marched up Midleton Main St in the 2013 parade.
Kids from junior infants to Fe 13 turned up in their club colours to represent the club. As usual there was a good turn out and following the parade the kids and their parents made their way back to the clubhouse for some refreshments. Once again it was a great turnout from the Juvenile parents. Many thanks for your support.

Gum Shields
From the 1st of January 2013 it is now compulsory for juvenile players to wear gum shields (mouth Guards). The rule relates to both football training and matches. This ruling has come from GAA Headquarters and anybody not wearing a gum shield and who subsequently gets injured during a match or training session will not be covered by GAA insurance.
GAA recommended gum Shields can be purchased from our juvenile club sponsor Murphy’s Pharmacy in Midleton.
Please ensure that your child has a gum shield for every training session and game.

Most teams are back training now following the Christmas break. Training times can be found on the club website   . On the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times have been posted. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. For players from junior infants to Fe 9 please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.

Midleton Juvenile Golf Classic
The dates for the 2013 juvenile Golf Classic have been confirmed as Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th of July. Please spread the news to those who you think might sponsor a team or a prize.

2013 Cúl Camp
