Midleton Hurling and Football, Ladies Football and Camogie Club Notes - August 29

29 August, 2024

SENIORS BACK IN ACTION

Our seniors are back in championship action on this coming Saturday night, against Kanturk in Castletownroche at 6.45pm. All tickets purchased are still valid for next Saturday's game but tickets (for those who weren't there last Sunday) can be purchased at the following link:  https://gaacork.ie/tickets/

On Sunday last our match against Kanturk was abandonded early due to a medical emergency in the stand. Immediately our (and Kanturk's) brilliant medical people jumped into action and did an unbelievable job. I don't want to mention any names of those involved as I would without doubt leave someone out. But a massive thank you to each and every one of you, including the ambulance and Air Ambulance staff, Gardaí, members of Castletwownroche GAA club and also to the Relihan Family for their sponsorship of the defibrillator in place at the pitch.

We are thrilled to report that Jerry is doing well and we wish him the very best wishes in his recovery and we look forward seeing him back at Midleton matches as soon as possible.

CO-OP SUPERSTORES IAHC

MIDLETON 1-16 SARSFIELDS 1-16

After trailing by 1-10 to 0-6 at the half-time break, this advantage for Sars was stretched out to ten points early ithe second-half but an Adam Daly goal helped us roar back into the game and produce another of this team's brilliant come backs before the evergreen Aidan Ryan struck for the leveller to cap off a superb comeback to take a point away from Cobh.

The result leaves both sides level on three points, one ahead of Ballygiblin, who beat Aghada by 2-15 to 0-19 in Castlelyons on Saturday.

Our final group game is against Aghada in Castlemartyr on Saturday week, September 7.

MIDLETON 3-14 COBH 2-18

Our Junior Hurlers travelled to Carrigtwohill on Sunday morning for what was very much a game of two halves.

We got off to a flying start and goals from Niall Lang, Conor Morley and Cathal Beausang helped us to a 3-10 to 0-7 half-time lead.

It was all Cobh in the second-half and after a cracking encounter we just came up short of what would have been a brilliant win.

Up next are St. Ita's on Friday week in Castlemartyr.

Midleton scorers: Mark O’Keeffe 0-7 (4 f, 2 65), Niall Lang 1-1, Cathal Beausang 1-1, Conor Morley 1-0, Eoghan Fraser, Dara Scanlon 0-2 each, Darragh Egan 0-1.

MIDLETON: Zach Smith; Alan Power, Ryan McConville, Tomás Dunlea; Dan Cagney, Patrik Kane, Dara Scanlon; Jack Fitzgerald, Eoghan Fraser; Darragh Egan, Mark O’Keeffe (Captain), Niall Lang; Cathal Beausang, Conor Morley, Daniel Garde. Sub: Padraig Nagle for Egan (51).

EAST CORK JCHC

FR. O'NEILL'S 0-12 MIDLETON 4-15

Our fourth adult team, our Junior C hurlers, were also in action, when they made the trip to Aghavine on Monday night in extremely difficult conditions to take on the home side.

With 23 players togged out this was a great win and well done to all involved.

A special mention to Davy O'Brien (51, pictured above with manager Brian McCarthy and son David John) who came out of retirement to play in goals and kept a cleansheet. Some man.

UNDER 12S

Our U12 (White team) played Mallow at home in Park South on Friday night. This is the girls' third match in Group 4 of the League and their first time playing Mallow. The girls showed fantastic determination and defended their positions well in all areas of the field and with some great passing and hooking displays, the girls came out on top in the end. Well done girls.

Thanks to Brónach Thomas’s cousins Molly and Julia for joining us from Ohio to help with our U-13 coaching session on Friday night, the U-13 girls gave a masterclass in all the skills involved in Camogie.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN OUR CLUB

A brief update on the development in Park South.

As any visitor to Park South can attest, the progress has been astonishing. Over the last few weeks over 80,000 tonnes of earth and topsoil have been stripped, cut, excavated and in part stockpiled (topsoil for future use).

Over 3,000 tonnes of rock have been broken, largely for future use as a base for road and pathways. As we stand the platforms for both the 3G and grass pitches have been levelled and formed.

This is an important milestone for the project and it’s speed has been helped by favourable weather. For the next number of weeks these platforms, with large volumes of cut/fill completed over the last few weeks, will need to settle.

After this, works will commence on the drainage systems on both pitches. Overall, we are very happy with progress to date and are still on track for delivery of 3G pitch with lights for Q1 next year.

Further updates will follow as the year progresses. Drone footage of pitches as they are now https://midletongaa.com/development

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

A Midleton Junior Hurling team from July, 2015.

KILLEAGH GAA'S FUNDRAISER FOR RORY MOTHERWAY

On May 20th last, Rory was driving to Killeagh to a Junior football match that his team was playing in. On the way to the match Rory lost consciousness while driving and was involved in a serious car accident which has left him with life-changing injuries. Rory has permanent spinal cord damage which results in him now having paraplegia (paralysis of his lower limbs) and being a full-time wheelchair user.

His family now need our help to make their home accessible for him and help him regain his independence.

The fundraiser for Rory is now live. Please consider clicking the link below to read the full story and donate where possible. We also ask that you share this message to all in your groups to help spread the word.

https://www.gofundme.com/f/killeagh-gaa-rory-motherway-fundraiser-2024

PLEASE PLAY YOUR PART

The word is not getting out that NO DOGS (other than assistance dogs) are allowed in our grounds at Clonmult Memorial Park or Park South.

Please respect this and spread the word.....
