SENIORS BOOK PLACE IN KNOCKOUT STAGES

MIDLETON 3-19 GLEN ROVERS 1-13

Our senior hurlers booked their place in knockout stages of the Co-op Superstores Premier Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday when they got they better of Glen Rovers in front of big crowd in Carrigtwohill.

Two points from play from Conor Lehane had us in touch 0-4 to 0-2 afer seven minutes before an excellent piece of quick thinking from a free saw Conor set up Luke O'Farrell for the opening goal of the game in the eight minute to put us in front for the first time in the game, 1-2 to 0-4.

The Glen bounced back with three points in a row from play before two Conor Lehane frees levelled things up after 13 minutes (1-4 to 0-7). It was tit for tat for the rest of the first-half as we had points from Conor Lehane, Mikey Finn and Cormac Beausang to see us go in at half-time trailing by a single point on a scoreline of 0-11 to 1-7.

Sam Quirke putting us on the attack.

Unfortunately Conor Lehane was unable to retake his place for the second-half after picking up an injury late in the opening period but his replacement, Pa White, announced his arrival in the game in style as he goaled with his first touch after just 47 seconds of the second-half.

The Glen struck for two points to level things up before Paul Connaughton put us back in front. Then on 36 minutes the Glen got their only goal of the game to take a two point lead. Amazingly that was to be there final score of the game.

Luke O'Farrell scoring his second goal.

Points from Cormac Beausang and Ross O'Regan put us two ahead before Luke O'Farrell struck for his second and our third goal with 11 minutes to play to see us into a 3-10 to 1-13 lead.

We finished with a real flourish to put the game beyond any doubt with points from Eoin Moloney, Luke O'Farrell, David Cremin (3), Cormac Beausang (2) and Paul Connaughton and with Cillian Hurley and his defence rock solid at the back, we ran out deserved winners on a final score of 3-19 to 1-13.

Well done to Micheal and all his selectors and backroom team and of course the players on a great win.

They are off now for a few weeks before they meet Blackrock in the their final group game, again in Carrigtwohill, on Sunday, September 3 at 4pm. Both teams are already through to the knockout stages but the winners will top the group and probably go straight through to the semi-final.

We wish Conor the best on a quick recovery.

A flying Seannaidh Smyth gets his pass away.

Scorers: Luke O'Farrell 2-1, Conor Lehane 0-5 (0-3 frees), Pa White 1-1, Cormac Beausang 0-4 (frees), David Cremin 0-3, Paul Connaughton 0-2, Eoin Moloney, Mikey Finn and Ross O'Regan 0-1 each.

MIDLETON: Cillian Hurley, Sean O'Sullivan, Luke Dineen, Seannaidh Smyth, Eoin Moloney, Tommy O'Connell, Sean O'Leary Hayes, Mikey Finn, Cormac Beausang, Sam Quirke, Conor Lehane, Ross O'Regan, Paul Connaughton, Luke O'Farrell, David Cremin. Subs: Pa White for Lehane, Ciarmhac Smyth for Finn.

INTERMEDIATE A HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

MIDLETON 0-15 DOUGLAS 0-14

Our intermediate hurlers made it two wins from two on Friday night in Caherlag with a hard-fought one point win over Douglas in windy conditions.

Two Aaron Mulcahy frees put us two clear early on but Douglas hit five of the next six scores before a brace of points from play from Gavin Reddy saw us trail by 0-5 to 0-4 after 18 minutes. Aaron Mulcahy added to our tally but Douglas finished the half the stronger to take a 0-9 to 0-5 lead to the midway interval.

Aaron Mulcahy and a point with his first touch from Tiarnán Roche cut the deficit to two but Douglas hit back with two frees to see them lead by 0-11 to 0-7 after 43 minutes.

Two Aaron Mulcahy frees and a second from Tiarnán Roche saw us close to a single point with 13 minutes to play.

Douglas struck back with a free before we hit four in a row through Kian Farmer (2), Aaron Mulcahy and a scorcher from Leo Hennessy to see us go two in front with four minutes to play.

We were reduced to 14 a minute later when Cathal Gunning saw red on a second yellow card. Douglas cut the gap to one before Aaron Mulcahy replied with a lovely point from play in injury-time and even though Douglas cut the gap to one, we held on for a deserved win.

Ballygiblin's win over Cloughduv on Sunday in the other weekend game in our group means that we are now through to the knockout stages, with Ballygiblin, and we play them in our final game of the group stages on Saturday, September 2 in Ballynoe.

Well done to Keith and all his selectors and backroom team on getting through the group and best of luck going forward.

JUNIOR C HURLERS

MIDLETON 2-17 BRIDE ROVERS 0-13

Following the great wins for the club's senior and intermediate hurlers at the weekend, our Junior C team continued a great week for the club on Tuesday night when they got the better of Bride Rovers in the East Cork Championship at Clonmult Memorial Park on a fabulous evening for hurling.

Bride Rovers got off to a quick start and raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead but we soon roared into the game with five points in a row from Nicky Daly Hayes (3), Brian O'Sullivan and Niall Lang to give us the lead for the first time.

Three more Nicky Daly Hayes points before the break saw us lead by a single point at the midway stage on a score of 0-9 to 0-8.

There was nothing in it again on the resumption before Gavin Hurley struck for the game's opening goal, a score that put us on the road to victory.

Andy Rea (2), Ben O'Neill and Nicky Daly Hayes all added points as we began to pull away for the first time in the game and the result was put beyond doubt in the closing stages with a monster of a point from Billy O'Shea and a goal and a point from the very lively Niall Lang to seal a convincing win in the end after what was a very tight game for at least three quarters of the game.

Well done to Brian and his management team and all the 24 players who togged out on the night.

The second-half turned out to be one way traffic thanks to a great team performance, with some outstanding play from Conor Morley, Callum O Brien, Ben Fitzpatrick, Diarmud Lester and captain Callum McSweeney. It finished on a scoreline 3-21 to 1-10. Well done to all the lads

P1 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

MIDLETON 3-10 SARSFIELDS 1-15

After a late, late goal denied us an opening round win in Ballincollig, we came into this must-win game missing three players who started that game and seemingly with our backs against the wall but these young lads showed great character to grind out an excellent win against Sarsfields in front of a big crowd in Clonmult Memorial Park on Wednesday night on a beautiful evening for hurling.

Points from Paddy Walsh, Darragh Egan and Cian Stack had us 0-3 to 0-1 in front after nine minutes but Sars hit back with four in a row to put them two in front after the opening quarter Points from James McSweeney and Darragh Egan followed but Sars went in at the break in front on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-5.

Sars added the first point of the second period before we hit a real puble patch scoring 2-2 on the trot, the points coming from Paddy Walsh and Darragh Egan and the two goals coming from Cian Stack. When Cian Stack added a further point and James McSweeney hit two inside a minute, we led by six, 2-10 to 0-10 with 11 minutes to play. Sars followed up with two points before Daniel Garde struck for our third goal to put us seven up with five to play.

But this is a good Sars team and they were never going to give up and the struck back with 1-3 without reply in the closing stages but thankfully our lads showed great heart and determination to see it out and take the points by a point at the final whistle.

This was a great game of hurling played in a great spirit by two good teams. Well done to all involved.
