CO-OP SUPERSTORES COUNTY PREMIER SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1

MIDLETON 1-27 BISHOPSTOWN 1-13

Our senior hurlers made their entrance into this year’s Premier Senior Hurling Championship on Saturday last in Pairc Uí Rinn when they took on Bishopstown.

Two early frees saw the city side take an early advantage but we were soon up and running with a point from play by Paul Connaugthon followed by three frees on the bounce from Conor Lehane.

David Cremin and Luke O’Farrell answered Bishopstown white flags before we struck three from play without reply from Paul Connaughton, Mikey Finn and Conor Lehane to see us 0-9 to 0-4 to the good with 19 minutes on the clock.

We finished the half with points from Luke O’Farrell (2) and Cormac Beausang (2) to see us go in at the half-time break in possession of a 0-13 to 0-9 lead.

The one major dark spot from that first-half was the injury suffered by our goalkeeper Bryan Rossiter on his senior debut on the half-hour mark when saving a certain goal. He was replaced by Cillian Hurley between the posts.

Mikey Finn putting over one of his three points from play against Bishopstown.

We hit the ground running in the second-half with six of the fist seven scores of the period through Conor Lehane (3), Mikey Finn and Cormac Beausang (2). Mikey Finn, Cormac Beausang and David Cremin tacked on further white flags to see us lead on a score of 0-22 to 0-12 with 12 second-half minutes played.

Cormac Beausang, Conor Lehane and David Cremin added further points before the aforementioned Cremin got the first goal of the game in the 51st minute after being set up by Luke O’Farrell. Conor Lehane and Paul Connaughton added two more points before Bishopstown goaled with the last play of the game to leave us 14 points in front at the final whistle.

Scorers: Midleton: Conor Lehane (0-9, 0-6 frees); Cormac Beausang (0-6); David Cremin (1-3); Mikey Finn, Paul Connaughton and L O’Farrell (0-3 each).

MIDLETON: Bryan Rossiter; Sean O’Sullivan, Luke Dineen, Seannaidh Smyth; Eoin Moloney, Tommy O’Connell, Sam Quirke; Mikey Finn, Cormac Beausang; Pa White, Conor Lehane (Captain), Ross O’Regan; Paul Connaughton, Luke O’Farrell, David Cremin. Subs: Cillian Hurley for Rossiter (30 mins, inj); Ciarmhac Smyth for Moloney (56).

BEST WISHES BRYAN

We would like to wish Bryan Rossiter the very best of luck in his recovery and we hope to see him back in the Black and White as soon as possible.

CO-OP SUPERSTORES COUNTY INTERMEDIATE A HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1

MIDLETON 2-12 CLOUGHDUV 1-12

Our intermediate team were also in action in Pairc Uí Rinn at the weekend, taking on last year’s beaten finalists in this grade, Cloughduv in a lunchtime game due to the All-Ireland camogie final.

We got off to a blistering start to this game with goals from Cian Crowley and Kian Farmer and a point from Cian Crowley to see us lead by 2-1 to 0-2 inside eight minutes.

We struggled a bit for scores after this but points from Tadhg O’Leary Hayes, Padraig O’Shea and Cian Crowley saw us trail by a point at the half-time whistle on a score of 1-8 to 2-4.

We got off to a strong start with two pointed frees from Aaron Mulcahy to put us in front before Alex Quirke and two more Aaron Mulcahy frees saw us lead by 2-9 to 1-9 with 15 minutes to play.

There was nothing in it all the way to the wire but points from Alex Quirke, Kian Farmer and a free from Aaron Mulcahy saw us come out on top by a goal at the final whistle.

There’s no doubt that we deserved our win and 21 wides will tell the story that it should have been more clear cut…but a win is a win.

Scorers: Cian Crowley 1-2, Aaron Mulcahy 0-5 (frees), Kian Farmer 1-1, Alex Quirke 0-2, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes & Padraig O’Shea 0-1 each.

MIDLETON: Brion Saunderson, Cathal Gunning, Christian Murphy, David Scanlon, Leo Hennessy, James Nagle (Captain), Sean O’Leary Hayes, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes, Adam Daly, Kian Famer, Aaron Mulcahy, Padraig O’Shea, Padraig O’Brien, Alex Quirke, Cian Crowley. Subs: Tiarnán Roche for O’Brien, Darragh McCarthy for O’Shea.

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND TWO

Another busy weekend beckons as our senior and intermediate hurlers are both back in action in round two of their respective championships.

Our intermediates are first into action, on Firday night (August 11) when they make the short trip to Caherlag to take on Douglas at 7.30pm.

Then on Sunday, it's another short trip, this time our senior hurlers will be heading for Carrigtwohill to take on Glen Rovers at 3pm it what promises to be a cracker of a game.

It would be brilliant to see large numbers of Midleton supporters (young and old) at both of these games. And please wear you're club gear if you have it....

We are also hosting a second round game in the Co. Senior A Hurling Championship this weekend. On Saturday night at 7pm Killeagh and Bride Rovers will meet in Clonmult Memorial Park fresh from opening round wins for both last weekend.

Don't forget you have to buy your tickets in advance for these games online - you won't be able to pay at the gate. The link for tickets is:

EAST CORK OIL EAST CORK JUNIOR A HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1

MIDLETON 2-6 CARRIGTWOHILL 0-18

Avril Geary Chair East Cork Board receiving sponsorship from Con Ryan of sponsors East Cork Oil at the launch of the East Cork Junior Hurling Championship. Also included are officers of the board and reps of the competing teams, inlcuding our own Peter Dowling.

Lisgoold was the venue on a miserable Bank Holiday Monday evening for our opening game in the East Cork Oil sponsored East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship.

Carrigtwohill opened the scoring with a point from play before Christian Daly crashed the ball to the net inside six minutes. Carrig hit two in a row before Mark O’Keeffe fired over two frees to see us lead by 1-2 to 0-3 after 18 minutes.

Carrig then hit four points in a row (two from play and two from frees)  but we struck back with a goal from Mark O’Keeffe to put us back in front (2-2 to 0-7). But it was the men in blue and gold who finished the strong with the last four points of the half to see them lead at the midway point on a scoreline of 0-11 to 2-2.

We cut the lead to a single point after six second-half points through points from Peter Dowling and Mark O’Keeffe. Two Carrig points were answered by two Mark O’Keeffe frees to leave us just a point adrift with 18 minutes to play but unfortunately we failed to score during this period and Carrig struck five unanswered white flags to see them across the line after a feisty affair by a margin of six points.

Next up we will play Carrignavar on Saturday, September 2.

Scorers: Mark O’Keeffe 1-5 (0-5 frees), Christian Daly 1-0, Peter Dowling 0-1.

MIDLETON: Zach Smith, Neil Fitzgerald, Aaron Coughlan, Alan Power, Adam Fay, Patrik Kane, Evan McCarthy, Gavin Reddy, Leslie Coughlan, Evan McGrath, Dara Scanlon, Mark O’Keeffe, Cathal Beausang, Peter Dowling (Captain), Christian Daly. Subs: Harry Wall for Dara Scanlon, Charlie Walsh for Evan McCarthy.
