FÉ17S

Rebel Óg Fé17 C3 League Final

Midleton 1-15 Kiltha Òg 1-14

After two Round Robin stages the competition eventually came to a conclusion with a knockout stage culminating in an all East Cork final against a very strong Kiltha Óg side played in Dungourney in very challenging weather and underfoot conditions on Sunday last.

The game got off to a fairly even start with a Conor Morley point and a Jack Foley free sandwiching two Kiltha points, from here however Kiltha went on a bit of a scoring spree playing with the aid of a strong wind scoring 1-4 without reply and the game looked like it was slipping away from Midleton until Darragh Egan popped a point from play to steady the ship. The pivotal point in the game came a couple of minutes later when Jack Foley picked up the ball on the 45, broke past his marker and delivered a ball into the square which the keeper failed to deal with and Oscar Brennan pounced to bury the ball in the Kiltha net. This gave Midleton a massive  boost and Niall Lang scored a superb long-range point and Jack Foley scored another free to bring the game back to the minimum. Kiltha got the last two scores of the half to leave it 1-8 to 1-5 at the break.

The second-half started as the first did with a Fionn Kelly free and Conor Morley point from play matched by two Kiltha frees followed by two more Kiltha frees to leave the hosts five points up 10 minutes into the second-half, Midleton introduced Odhran “Ger” Rabbitte for Eoin Higgins at this stage and it had an immediate effect with a superb display of fielding in the middle of the pitch that tipped the balance in Midleton’s favour and bar a Darragh Egan point from play and two points from Kiltha we were treated to a superb display of free taking from Daniel Garde who scored from seven placed balls the best of which were his final two frees, the first from his own 65 to level the game and the final score from the sideline on the 21 after being fouled he had the composure to slot home the winner right on 60 minutes.

The game was not done yet as Adam O’Connor and Yohannis Mehigan defended superbly for four minutes additional time and that defensive effort was epitomised by their captain Darragh Ahern who won and cleared the final ball of the game. A game of great drama and excitement in the balance right up to the final whistle played in front of a large boisterous crowd that added to the occasion, a fitting finale for the Fé17 players who were playing their final game as juveniles.

FÉ14S

The Fé14s travelled to Pairc Uí Chaoimh 4G pitch last Saturday to compete in a six team sectional finals for a Super 10's tournament. This 10 aside shortened pitc and game times was a very enjoyable end of season event. Our lads adapted very well to the format with victories over Bride Rovers and St Colmcilles in the group stages and coming out on top in a cracking final by the bare minimum over Killeagh.

For their efforts, they won Munster tops as well as qualification to a Munster finals event for it to be held in Mallow on Saturday. Thanks to GDA Sean Crowley for co-ordination of the tournament. Squad on the Day: Michael Allegrini, Scott Dunlea, Jason Morley, Cuan Twomey, Max Murphy, Cian Lawton, James Carey, Senan Carroll, Patrick O Dowd, Harry Watermann, Jack Walsh, Shane O'Mahony.

There was also great support from other members on the Fé14 squad on the day too.

ADULT CLUB

JUNIOR C FOOTBALL

On Friday night last we travelled to Rostellan to play Aghada in the East Cork division three football final. On the night we had over 30 players togged out which was fantastic. We started the game very well and owned the ball for the first 15 minutes and took some good points. We made a few great goal chances but the ball just wasn't going in due to some strong defence from Aghada and a few great saves from their goalkeeper. This was our first time having to negotiate a blanket defence, not something you see at this level very often. The half-time score read Midleton 0-4 Aghada 0-5.

Having played into the breeze we had hoped to put on more scores in the second period but they were difficult to come by. Entering injury time, we earned a long range free which we worked very smartly into a very good position and Christian Daly duly obliged to level the game. The full-time score read Midleton 0-10 Aghada 0-10. On to extra-time we headed and again played some great football but were two points down at half-time. Aghada extended their lead to five points with a well taken goal but as always, we are never easily beaten. A point from play and a well taken penalty after some very cynical fouling left the bare minimum between the sides. Try as we might we just could not find the equalising score one more time and Aghada took the win. Full-time after extra-time Midleton 1-12 Aghada 1-13.

Overall, this has been a really good league campaign, reaching our first league final in recent memory and we will aim to maintain that positive trajectory in 2023. A huge thanks to Eoin, Brendan and Liam for all their efforts throughout the season. We aren't finished yet however and have our junior C championship semi-final to play on Tuesday next, November 8, in Sallybrook versus Glanmire at 8pm. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

MIDLETON: Adam Meade, Brendan Ferriter, Sean Corcoran, Daniel Wathen, Fergus Wade, Barry Fitzgerald, Conor Evans, Evan McCarthy, Dan Cagney (Capt), Alan Power, Kieran Denihan, Brion Saunderson, Tom Scanlon, Christin Daly and Charlie Walsh.
