Midleton Hurling and Football, Ladies Football and Camogie Club News - June 30

30 June, 2022

GOLF CLASSIC

With the Irish Open on this week in Mount Juliet and the JP McManus Pro-Am on this coming Monday and Tuesday in Adare, now is the perfect opportunity to book in your team for the 2022 Midleton GAA Golf Classic. It will take place at East Cork Golf Club on July 20/21 in association with our sponsors, Blackwater Motors.

Tee times are booking up fast - thanks to those who have already booked up for this very important annual fundraiser - so don't miss out - when they're gone, they're gone.

Please contact Liam Walsh (087-9610346) to book your tee time or if you're not a golfer maybe you’d like to sponsor a tee box for just €50.

You can register your team, tee box or both at the following link:

CAMOGIE

FÉ11 V BALLINCOLLIG

Well done to the Fé11 girls for a fantastic team performance against Ballincollig at Park South. Lots of picking and striking all over the pitch and they never gave up, chasing, hooking, blocking and helping each other. All of the coaches are very proud of your continued improvements this season. Great work rate girls.

FÉ13 V SARSFIELDS

Our Fe13s were in Imokilly league action against Sarsfields Camogie at home in Park South on Monday evening last. It was a fabulous game of camogie with both teams giving it everything but unfortunately we came up just short in the end! Well done girls. Special mention to our captain on the day Kerrie who was excellent on the pitch and in leading her team.

CORK U-16S

Well done to our club player Isabelle Nestor (pictured above) who lined out in the red and white jersey for the Cork U-16s. They came up against a very strong Galway side last Saturday at Castle Road, Cork. It wasn’t to be their day with a final score of Cork 1-7 to Galway 6-3.

JUVENILES

FÉ10S V COURCEY ROVERS

Our lads travelled to Ballinspittle on Saturday Morning to play Courcey Rovers in Hurling.

This was our first Bus Rrip as a group and all 29 players were looking forward to the day out.

We divided the players into three groups and all three groups played three games each.

Our lads played very well on the day and got some great scores throughout each of their games.

We would like to thank Courcey Rovers for hosting us and looking after us with plenty of refreshments in their clubhouse afterwards.

It was great day out and hopefully it will be the first of many bus outings for this group (below).

FÉ12 FOOTBALL

Our Fé12 Group 5 football team took ok Kilworth Araglen Og this week and after a fierce battle it was the men from North Cork that just shaded the verdict by two points on a final score of 1-7 to 1-5.

FÉ13 V BALLINCOLLIG

Our Fé13 entertained Ballincollig at Clonmult Memorial Park on Saturday and after a great game of hurling it was the young Magpies who came out on top on a final score of 5-12 to 2-5. Well done lads on a great win.

FÉ15 V CARRIGALINE

Our Fé15s had another great win this week when they took on Carrigaline in the Rebel Og Coiste Fe15 Premier 1 Hurling League. The final score was Midleton 2-21 Carrigaline 2-7. Good stuff lads.

GAELSCOIL VISIT

There was great excitement at the Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann this week before they finished up for the summer holidays as they received a visit and some expert training from Midleton and Cork seniors, Tommy O'Connell, Sam Quirke (in the picture below) and Orlagh Farmer.

We are back in action on Tuesday next, July 5 when we take on Carrigtwohill in round two of the Junior A Football Championship. Time and venue to be confirmed. See social media.

FÉ19S

Our Fé19s will play the club's first ever championship game at this grade on Wednesday evening next at home to Sarsfields in Clonmult Memorial Park at 7.30pm. This is a knockout championship and the winners will meet Blackrock or Na Piarsaigh in the semi-finals. It would be brilliant to have a big Magpies support at this game.

Best of luck to all involved.

JUNIOR A HURLING

Our Junior A Hurlers played their latest league game against Waterfgrasshill on Wednesday night last and we came off second best on the night on a scoreline of 0-24 to 0-15.

JUNIOR B HURLING

Our Junior B hurlers travelled to play Cloyne in their latest league game on Monday night at it was the home side that came out on top after a well contest hour's hurling on a scoreline of Cloyne 2-18 Midleton 1-17.

We're back in action on this Friday night, July 1, at home to Castlemartyr at 7.30pm.

MASTERS FOOTBALL

A big shout out to two Midleton stalwarts, Micheál Keohane and Barry Fitzgerald who are currently starring for the Cork Masters (Over 40) football team. On Saturday last they defeated London at the Pairc Uí Chaoimh 4G pitch on a score of 1-9 to 0-8. In the picture Michéal is second from the left and Barry is third from the right, both in the back row. Keep it up lads.
