Midleton Hurling and Football, Ladies Football and Camogie Club News
27 January, 2022
A Happy New Year to all readers of our weekly club notes.
2022 will be a very busy year both on and off the field for our over 1,200 members. Already some teams are back in training with training plans being finalised for the remainder. As usual, training dates and times will be advised directly by team managers.
New U19 Grade. A special word for our U19s. This is a newly created grade and the county U19 league and championship competitions will be organised by the County CCC for the next two years, based on the Rebel Óg structures and regions and matches will be played midweek to avoid adult and minor fixtures at the weekend. As we strive to keep our young adult men playing hurling and football this grade is most welcome.
Pitch development. Already in 2022 we have seen the goal mouths and other areas in Clonmult Memorial Park’s pitch being replaced with a hybrid grass and artificial turf system. This work should pay dividends later in the year. In Park South, we will see the second grass pitch coming into use this year. More updates will follow in the next few months on Park South, including the still planned 3G pitch development.

Annual Long Puc Competition
In spite of Covid restrictions being in place there was still a decent turn out on St Stephans morning for our annual Sean Keohane Memorial Long Puc Competition. Many thanks to those who took part and we look forward to a return to normality for the coming year. All entry fees for the Long Puc go to charity and this year we have made a donation of €410 to the Mercy Hospital Leukaemia Unit.

Many thanks to all local sporting clubs who congratulated us on our recent winning of the Cork County Senior Hurling Championship. These expressions were much appreciated.
n this same spirit of local solidarity Midleton RFC invited Midleton GAA, to a lunch prior to their recent All Ireland League match against Omagh Academicals. Speaking at the lunch both Midelton RFC President Con Walsh and Midleton GAA Chairman Liam Ryan spoke of the good working relationship between the 2 clubs. Liam Ryan thanked the rugby club for their splendid hospitality and wished them the very best in the remainder of their AIL matches.
Midleton GAA senior player Luke O’Farrell presented Omagh Academicals President Kevin Murnaghan with a hurley signed by the Midleton Senior Team. In accepting the hurley Kevin promised to hang the hurley in their clubhouse and also spoke about his family connections to the GAA and to Midleton GAA.
