U14A County League semi final. Midleton Vs Rockban

On Sunday evening 26th September in the pouring rain we faced Rockban with the prize of a county league final awaiting the winners of this match. We got off to a fast start with Faye Dunlea in the opening minutes breaking through their defence and rifling the ball into the net. We then tagged on a couple of points before Mia Collins late in the first half latched on to a great ball in by Sorcha Cronin and raced towards goal and picked her spot finishing off a great move with a deserved goal. Rockban showed their class and came back fighting with some great scores of their own. The sides went into the break with just a few points between them. The girls received their instructions and went back out for the second half where Kate O Sullivan knocked in some classy goals and points. During the last quarter we conceded a penalty where our goalkeeper Kate Griffin almost stopped a rocket of a shot. This goal spurred on Rockban who in fairness dominated possession in the last quarter but our defence lead by Pippa Hennessey, Miriam Finn and Alannah Magan stood firm and kept their scores to a minimum and Midleton ran out winners on a scoreline of

Midleton 4-5 (17)

Rockban 2-7 (13)

Well done to Kate Griffin who captained her team to victory on the day.

We now march on to another county championship semi final on Saturday Oct 2nd in Ballinacurra at 2:30pm, please come along and support this amazing group of girls.

Fe16 Midleton v Ballinora U16 Championship Semi-Final held on 24th Sep in Midleton

After a great win in the final round robin game against Valley Rovers, Midleton qualified for the Semi Final of the Premier 2 County Championship. The draw pitted the girls against Ballinora for the second time in the Championship and with home advantage.

Midleton started this match much better than the previous encounter and got on the score board early with some well worked points from play. Midleton led at the first water break by 1-3 to 0-4.

The second quarter was also a tight affair and both teams showed great skill and commitment, Midleton held a 3 point half time lead with the scores 1-6 to 0-6.

Ballinora came out very strongly at the start of the second half and scored an early goal, however the Midleton girls showed great character to bounce back with 4 unanswered points to take a 1-10 to 1-6 lead into the final quarter.

Midleton began to dominate during the remainder of the match and eventually ran out winners 2-12 to 1-7 at the finish. Ballinora must be congratulated after showing great heart and always looked dangerous right to the very end

Next up for the U16 panel will be the Premier league quarter finals followed by 1st round of Championship, details from County board to follow.

Ladies Football

Junior Ladies

Junior B Championship v O’Donovan Rossa.

Half Time report. Midleton 2-5  O’Donovan Rossa 1-3 . In what only can be described as unfavourable conditions an under strength Midleton have shown composure and dogged determination. They can count themselves lucky as the ladies from West Cork have missed some easy chances. Midleton refused to be enamoured by their opponents and are showing them no respect. Good link up play, off the ball running, Pat Kelly’s screaming, Permy’s conditioning and Brian’s tactics will all be required in the 2nd half to pull off an upset .

Sos Uisce : 5 points in it as we turn for home .  Midleton in front. Gráinne Finn was involved in a bad clash and has had to be substituted. Thankfully she has since recovered very well.  That’s Midleton’s loss as she’s played a blinder and is my Player of the match

FT . Midleton 2-10 Skibbereen 3-4.

A well-deserved victory for the Midleton ladies sees them take the spoils in what many pundits would describe as a mild upset. Spurred on by a great sideline team most notably Pat ‘put in down‘ Kelly the ladies showed grit and most of all composure on the ball ( something lacking in the opponents play ) . The opposition will rue easy mussed chances but ultimately Midleton had a better passing game, and once again superior fitness ( Mr . Perm ) . Joyous scenes at the final whistle. I asked Pat Kelly for a few words but he was hoarse leaving it all out there vocally.  I guess you say he was speechless.
