Midleton Magpie Profile

With so many members across all the different sections of the club, it is often difficult to know ‘who is who’. In an effort to introduce members to one another, from the youngest Juvenile boy or girl to adults players, coaches and officers, we are compiling Midelton Magpie Profiles. These will be published on social media and other channels. Your representative will have been in contact but in case you missed the instructions on how to access the form…go to homepage, click on ‘Magpie Profile Form’ link in top right hand corner, download form relevant to you/your child, fill our and return to your representative. If you don’t have their email address then you can send it to GAA PRO at pro.midleton.cork@gaa.ie

Healthy Club Programme

The Mission of our Healthy Club Project is to empower the Club to enrich the lives of its members and the communities they serve. It's clear Vision is to create a Club that is aware of the health and wellbeing needs of its members and is proactive in ensuring that all members feel valued and are enriched as a result of their engagement with the GAA. Whilst this Project has been ongoing for some time, a lot of work has been done in recent times at both national and local level to help and support our members and community in this time of need.

Part of this work has been to provide members with information. This week we would like to share some of this information with you.

  • COVID-19 Resource Information pack for Adults. For advice, support and information across a number of areas of wellbeing. Link to pdf version of document:

Safeguarding & Vetting

Following recent club notes in relation to safeguarding and vetting as well as individual correspondence to those who need to fulfill their requirements there has been an absolutely fantastic response.  Thank you to everyone who got motivated and began renewal of one or both. It is much appreciated.  It is important to us as a club that we comply with mandatory requirements and the response from members to this request gives us a great sense of club spirit.  The environment in which our players train and play is important to all of us. Thank you

Any person who carries out a role of responsibility such as coaching, managing or training underage teams, or any team that has a player under 18 years of age must be vetted. The National Vetting Bureau Act 2012-2016 makes vetting a statutory obligation and therefore applies to everyone working with children.  Vetting can be done online through the E Vetting system

The GAA is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for all young people who wish to participate.  In an attempt to achieve this for all our underage players, coaches must complete a Safeguarding 1 workshop as highlighted in the Children First as one of the mandatory requirements.

Correspondence has gone out this week to coaches who are required to update either vetting or safeguarding.  Anyone who has completed Safeguarding 1 in 2016 can do an online refresher.  Please follow the steps if this applies to you;

1.   gaa.ie

2.   The GAA

3.   Child, Welfare & Protection

4.   Safeguarding tutors

5.   Online Safeguarding 1 refresher

This will take approximately 45 mins but it can be done at a time that suits you best.  Once completed please send the date and cert number to 087 6374748 or to childrensofficermidletongaa@gmail.com.  For anyone who completed Safeguarding 1 prior to 2016 there will be a workshop facilitated in the club when we are again back to business.

Midleton GAA have always been compliant with regard to these mandatory requirements so it would be great to have everything updated during this period of closure so we will be ready to get back to action without delay when the time comes.  Anyone with any queries/difficulties please contact Ingrid at 087 6374748.

Midleton Camogie

The arrival of the pandemic left us without the opportunity to fulfill our foundation training, which is also a mandatory requirement.  Fortunately, Rebel Og are doing an online version of this (please check out their website). The theory part of the training can be done online and the practical side will be completed later in the year on our return to the field.  Again, huge thanks to those of you who have responded so positively to this.  We would like to encourage all who need to fulfill this requirement to register for this training.  Please contact Ingrid at 087 6374748 if you need to discuss further.

During the week, we received a fantastic Midleton Camogie Team photo circa 1920 from Gillian Fitzgerald Murphy.

It just goes to show Midleton has always had a strong Camogie interest even way back then.

We’d like to invite our members to share stories and photos of the good old days with us as we’d to be happy to post these on our social media pages!

As always keep safe and keep up the skills and practicing.

Ladies Football

We hope you are all keeping well. We are all missing our training sessions and matches. We know it’s hard to keep the training going on your own but try and keep it up. Orlagh has posted videos of drills to keep us going. All are posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Juvenile

The online booking system for the Cúl Camps is now open. At the moment the Gaa are planning to go ahead with all camps across the Country. They will however be guided by the HSE so any changes to dates will be notified ASAP.
