Irish Distillers have been named Cork Company of the Year

Midleton GAA wishes to congratulate our Sponsor and neighbour Irish Distillers on being named Cork Company of the Year for driving the global renaissance of Irish whiskey. The Irish Examiner states :....

"The Midleton based distillery picked up the award at the Cork Chamber’s Annual Dinner held in Cork City Hall attended by more than 1,000 leading industry and political figures.

Its leading brand Jameson is the world’s fastest-growing Irish whiskey, achieving 30 years of consecutive growth and hitting sales of 7.7m cases last year.

Since 2012, it has embarked on a €330m investment project and has seen a 79% increase in sales and employee numbers have jumped from 118 to 240 over the past decade.

Paul Wickham, General Manager of Midleton Distilleries said they are truly honoured and humbled to receive the prestigious award."

Well done to Paul and all at Irish Distillers from Midleton GAA.

Bingo

Bingo: as usual on Friday  at 8pm. Great value on sheets - Blue,  check on any of 8 given numbers to win €500. Pink,  check on any number 13 to 19 also to win €500. Plus usual jackpot of 1,000. See you there !!

45 Drive

Hannah Beausang and John Barton dominate once more.

Hannah Beausang won no less than three out of the five finals where John Barton took out two,  partnering Hannah in one of those. Despite introducing an  Irish deck of cards where the jack was frequently mistaken for the queen (especially by Jim Cronin )could not detract from Hannah’s superiority. She was getting so many trumps at one stage the opposition were wondering was she playing with two decks of cards.

Results:
1) Hannah Beausang/Jer Beausang, 2)Donie Kelly/John Barton, 3) Hannah Beausang/Tommy Driscoll, 4) Michael Morrissey/Kitty Griffin, 5) Hannah Beausang/John Barton

Cards continue this Friday February 14th. All welcome.

Anonymous Supporter earns Midleton GAA a 'few quid'

Our Club recently received a cheque for €30 from The Croke Park Hotel, which is part of the Doyle Collection of Hotels. In a letter accompanying the cheque it states:

"One of your Club Members recently stayed with us here at The Croke Park - Dublin's Iconic Sporting Hotel, and they have participated in our GAA Club Support Programme by nominating their GAA Club at the time of reservation".

As part of this programme Doyle Hotels have donated 5% of the booking to the nominated GAA Club, which in this case is Midleton GAA.

Well done to the Anonymous Club Member / Supporter & to Doyle Hotels

Condolences

The club would like to pass on our condolences to the Roche family on the sad passing during the past week of Eddie Roche. Eddie’s two sons Alan and Kevin played with the club, with Kevin being on the Senior County winning senior team of 1991.  For those of a certain vintage Eddie’s passing brings back many happy memories of days past. When Cork teams used to travel to games by car in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s Eddie was an integral part in the lives of all Midleton players and selectors who were involved with the county teams. Paddy Roche from Roche’s garage in Carrigtwohill had the contract to transport players from East Cork to venues all over the country and Eddie, being resident in Midleton, usually took charge of the car taking the Midleton contingent. At times during the 1980’s there were often 2 and sometimes 3 cars taking the Midleton players/selectors to and from the games at any one time. Invariably Eddie was one of them and he built up a great friendship with all those Midleton players, particularly the senior players, with whom he had the most contact. For all those lucky enough to have been part of these journeys  we will never forget them or Eddie. Ar Dheis Dé go rabh a anam
