Midleton Hurling & Football, Ladies Football & Camogie Club NEWS

07 October, 2018

Junior Football
We travelled to Ballincollig last Saturday afternoon to play Iveleary (Uibh Laoire) in the County Championship quarter final knowing that with quite a number of changes in personnel from the previous round we were going to be up against it and that turned out to be the case. The game was very one sided with their slick play and score taking very impressive. Our lads never gave up as they haven’t all year long and could not be faulted for their brave efforts. Final score: Midleton 0-04 v Uibh Laoire 3-22
Thanks to all the players and the management of Aidan Ryan , Kieran Mulcahy, John & Eoin Ferriter for their commitment throughout the year and in doing so winning an East Cork title for the first time in 26 years.
Team: Keith Ryan, Brendan Ferriter, Gavin Bagnell Harnett, Adam Daly, Cathal Gunning (0-01), Peter Dowling, Eoin Walsh, Kieran Moloney, Aidan Ryan, Padraig O’Brien, Ian Kennefick, Padraig O’Shea, Kieran Mulcahy, Johnny Comer (0-03, 1 free) & Cillian Hurley.
Subs used Eoin Collins and Eoin Ferriter. Referee Trevor Lyons of Douglas.

Senior Hurling
All roads lead to Pairc Ui Chaoimh next Sunday afternoon when we take on Imokilly in the County Hurling final at 4pm, our first since 2013. The players and management team have put in a huge effort to get this far, we’re facing a very formidable team in the reigning champions but our lads will take great heart though from their performances to date showing a never say die attitude. We wish everyone involved with the team the very best of luck and encourage all our supporters to don our Club colours and to roar your hearts out for the Magpies.
In advance of the Final we held a Media & Meet/Greet night last Wednesday evening in the Club, there was great excitement about with our Juvenile boys and girls meeting the players.

Juvenile

Fe 8
A sunny Pairc Ui Chaoimh greeted us on Saturday as we participated in the Go Games monster football blitz. All our players got to play three games on the 4G pitch and everyone of them played very well, but most importantly they enjoyed the experience.  After a few weeks of football we will now turn our attention to hurling. The players and management would like to wish the minor and senior hurlers all the best in their respective County Finals, ‘Up the Magpies’.

Fe 10
With this year’s series of Rebel Óg matches now successfully completed, our boys made the short trip across the county boundary to play a challenge game against Lismore. This was a very worthwhile trip for the 26 boys who lined out across the two teams and showed fantastic enthusiasm, determination and skill in both matches. Well done to all involved and keep up the hurling practice at home. Thanks again to all the parents who were able to come along and support. The boys and management would like to wish our senior and minor players and management the best of luck next week in their county finals – the boys will be cheering you on!! UP DA MAGPIES!!

Fe 11
On Saturday afternoon Clonmult Memorial Park was the venue as we  took on Glanmire in the Rebel Og Football league. Once again we had 30 strong young magpies togged, and as always ready to give their all for the team. On a sunny but slightly windy day, the boys performed once again against a very strong Glanmire side. There was some excellent football played at times and the boys learning each year how to play more as a team. We will continue to train over the next few weeks , with a final hurling match TBC during the week.
Also best of luck to our Minor Hurlers who contest the County Final on Monday night in PAIRC UI RINN, then the following Sunday our Senior Hurlers will contest the County Hurling Final  Vs Imokilly. Please support the both teams in what could be an historic week for the club. C’mon the Magpies !!!!!!!!!!

Fe 13
On Sunday afternoon in what only can be described as perfect conditions for hurling we had a C3 semifinal against Fermoy. The winners would be facing Douglas in the final, our lads started brightly with points from Darragh Fitzgerald and Rory Lester.  Evan Mc Grath struck for a goal within five minutes and the home side were on a roll. Two sublime goals from full forward Tiernan O Connell followed up by points from the very much on form Darragh Aherne saw us go into a commanding lead. The halfback line of Sean Cronin, Tadgh Bohane, and Rory Lester were giving the Fermoy forward line a tough time keeping the supply very limited to the full forward line. We led at halftime 3-8 to no score.
It was much the same in the second half with points from Fitzgerald, Lester and Aherne. Evan Mc Grath got his second goal of the game which was followed up by a fine point from Zach Smith and Adam Collins. This was a must win game for the lads and the entire panel played to their full potential. The mentors would like to thank all parents and supporters for their support. Next up for the lads is a C3 final against Douglas.

Up the Magpies
A call out went out to all the Juvenile Team Managers for brushing up on ‘Up the Magpies’ ahead of October 14th. We are calling on everyone, young and old to “Sing it Loud and Sing it Proud”. Keep a watch on social media during the week for clips from our juvenile players giving their renditions of up the Magpies!
“Up the magpies, up the magpies, up the Magpies every time, When we meet them, we will beat them, up the Magpies every time”

James O Brien Hurling Tournament
Next weekend Saturday 13th of October will see us host our annual James O Brien Hurling tournament. This Fe12 tournament is one of the main events in our juvenile hurling calendar each year. This years tournament will see us host Blackrock, Youghal and Ballyduff. Food and refreshments will be served throughout the day in the club lounge and we look forward to welcoming our visiting teams and look forward to a great days hurling in honour and remembrance of James O’ Brien.
