Dancers

The Dancers have started rehearsing and hope that when it comes to the Final night they will have confidence to express themselves with style and grace.  The official launch of Strictly takes place in the GAA Pavilion on Friday 23rd September at 8.30pm and that is the night the dancing pairs will be revealed. Then the hard work will really begin!

Dancers:

  • Colin O’Riordan lives in Dower Castlemartyr  with his lovely wife Mary. He works in Ballycotton Seafood at their flagship store, Main Street, Midleton.  Here, Colin interacts with his loyal customers on a daily basis and no doubt they will all wish him the very best of luck with STRICTLY MIDLETON! Colin  has interest in Music, Sport and travelling and (hopefully) dancing!  He loves a bit of Ceoil agus Craic and is really looking forward to the experience.
  • Marie Magan is married to Barry and they have four children.  Three of the kids are involved in underage teams with Midleton GAA and Eoin who just began school this year is looking forward to registering to play.  Marie enjoys running and was a member of Midleton Athletic Club, she is a Nurse in Midleton Community Hospital and her colleagues cannot wait to see her on stage.
  • Christopher  Dunlea is a 29 year old agile Goalkeeper.  He likes to spend his spare time on the “Goalkeepers App” looking for hints to help him improve his game!! He has lived and worked in Midleton all his life and has been a member of Midleton GAA since he was six years old.  He considers himself to be a nimble dancer with near-perfect balance.  Christopher can’t wait for the Green Light……or is it the Green Flag?!
  • Majella Tyrell lives in Cloyne where she grew up and went to school.  Her parents are Mary and Joe Tyrell.  Joe was a well-known Taxi Driver in Midleton until a couple of years ago.  She has two beautiful sisters and is Mum to two beautiful boys, Rory and Darragh who keep her active.  Majella loves to watch Strictly Come Dancing on TV and can’t wait to take to the stage herself.
  • Therese Keniry Roche is the proprietor of and Award winning Hair Salon over the past 32 years. She runs a thriving business at Split Ends with a large local customer base. Theresa has taken to the floor to support Mildeton Gaa. As much as she enjoys music and dancing this is a new challenge for her. She is a native of Killeagh but has lives in Midleton for the past 34 years with her husband James and her two beautiful daughters Megan and Sarah. She is a keen golfer and a member of Fota Island Golf Club. Competition is nothing new to her and I’m sure it will be no different when she takes to the dance floor. Theresa is always up for the crack and will no doubt enjoy herself. She is hoping to raise funds for Midleton Gaa while enjoying the banter and dance moves.
  • Donal Keohane is being sponsored by Jim Crowley Craft Butchers. During almost 40 years in business as a butcher on Main Street, Jim his sponsor served his apprenticeship with him. He is a long standing member of Midleton Gaa and served as a player and Chairman of the Underage and Social Committee. His leisure time involves walking, singing and crack with the Kilta Tones, a local Male Voice Choir of which he is an active member. Married to his beautiful and as he says -long suffering wife Mary they have 3 children Alan, Emer and Donal Og. He has 4 adorable grandchildren Molly, Rory, Eilis and Olivia. He is possibly the oldest swinger in town.
  • Pat Hayes played with Midleton underage and was involved in Elsinore Street Leagues many years ago. Now his game is golf. He is a very active member of Midleton Gaa golf society. Pats father the late Pat Senior was a member of the Midleton Gaa Social Committee and loved dancing. Pat is hoping he has inherited his father’s dancing moves.
  • Pa O’ Farrell is married to Carmel and they have 3 children. He owns a very busy butcher shop on the Main Street. He comes from a large well known family who have been Gaa supporters down through the years. His main hobby is dancing and his idol is John Travolta.
  • Pat Kelly is married to Ber and they have 2 children. Pat is the man to call if your car breaks down as he is a qualified mechanic and runs his own business in Midleton. Pat is certain he will be the best looking and best dancers taking part in Strictly Midleton.
  • Caroline Butler originally from Midleton but now lives in Cloyne. She likes to keep fit and is really looking forward to learning the new dance moves. She has 2 beautiful daughters who love joining in while she practices.
  • Jerry Wallace runs a very successful Undertaking Business in Midleton. He has 3 children Tom, Megan and Lucy who are all involved in Midleton Gaa. Jerry had an athletic scholarship in the States even before his Hurling escapades. He has travelled the length and breadth of the Country for the love of the game. He gives everything he gets involved with 100% and this also applies to Strictly. Rumour has it he has dancing lessons lined up as part of the Senior Teams training before the match on Sunday.
  • Dee Dennigan hails from Castlebar Co.Mayo but was lured South when she married her Cork husband in 2001. Dee works full time as a Community Drugs worker with Foróige in Mayfield where she helps young people, families and the wider community with various problems and issues. Dee has three children, two boys: Caolán aged 11 & Odhran aged 10 and a little girl Moya who is almost 5. The two boys have been playing football and hurling with Midleton since the ages of 4 and 5 and it is hoped that Moya will soon begin her football and camogie career. John originally from Fermoy has been involved with Midleton GAA since moving to the town in 2002. Dee is entering Strictly Midleton to help fundraise for additional facilities for the local GAA and also for fun! Dee loves to socialise, loves music & dancing and has always wanted to try out dance lessons. She is pushing herself way past her comfort zone but has decided to feel the fear and do it anyway!

  • Laura Walsh is married to the one and only Pat Walsh and have two fantastic children Mia aged eight and Liam aged seven. Laura says she is a GAA widow but doesn't mind as they are both avid sports fans and love hurling, football and camogie. They support Munster rugby and are Man United supporters which adds a bit of rivalry between uncle Liam and baby Liam. Laura coaches the under eight camogie team who are doing very well and are now into there second year and they enjoy there Friday nights for a rigorous training session. She is a full time working mum and she is really looking forward to starting strictly training and meeting all the other contestants.

  • Nicola Shanahan is a member of the East Cork community for more years than she cares to remember. She is a fun loving and energetic mother of two. She is looking forward to Strictly Midleton and is no stranger to the stage as she is heavily involved in the Aghada centre theatre group and already feels at home in the spotlight. She can't wait for the sparkle and glitter that is Strictly.

  • Ann O'Meara lives in Midleton and is married to Paul. They have 2 children, Kate is 20 and Sean is 17 and they also have a dog named Sam. Ann works in the Farmgate and loves meeting the customers. Her family can't wait to see her on stage.
