Midleton GAA (1-18) vs Erins Own (1-12)

Midleton Under 21 hurlers advanced as expected to the East Cork final with a six point win over Erins Own in Carrigtwohill on Wednesday of last week. Erins Own got off to an excellet stert and deservedly led by 1-01 to no score after two minutes. Midleton appeared slower to the ball, our first touch was not great and our shooting was poor. Erins Own had the benefit of the wind but despite shooting a lot of wides the Magpies qworked their way back into the game and at half time the scores were tied at 1-05 to 0-08. Midleton despite playing twith the wind were slower to start in the second half and our poor shooting continued. Apprpaching the 40th minute Erins Own led by 1-09 to 0-9. Midleton then upped their game and over the next ten miutes transformed the scoreboard as we scored 1-07 without reply to lead by seven points.. The goal a magnificent finish by Luke O’Farrell. Erins Pwn rallied with three unanswered points but in the end we had six points to spare.
The selectors oplayers will not loose the run of themselves after this performance where we had a total of 18 wides. It was more a case of mission accomplished in reaching the final rather than putting down a marker. A good number of the starting 15 were in action for the seniors the Sunday before so reaching the heights of that game was unlikely to happen again. We mow face Sarsfields in the East Cork final in what should be an exciting clash between two sets of talented players.
