Ladies Football

U10

On Friday evening our U8 girls played away to Carrigtwohill in a very tough encounter. This time of year it is very difficult to field teams with holidays and we were very lucky to have some of our older U8 girls to help us out. Carrigtwohill dominated from the start but our girls tried their hardest to compete all over the pitch. With no subs available we began to tire in the second half but with fierce determination they kept going. Well done to you all girls.

Team: Sarah Goulding, Eva Saunderson, Anna Burke, Georgia Obersby, Amy Taft, Evie Cullinane, Kayla McSweeney, Eva Pyne, Molly Barrett, Abi Pyne, Nessa Cronin, Ciara Finn, Hazel O Connor, Sara Cahill.

Well done to Orlagh Farmer and the Cork Ladies Football team who defeated Tyrone in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championship Quarter Final. Result was:

 Cork 7-16 (37) Tyrone  3-4 (13)

On Monday 12th  to Thurs 15th August the Cork Ladies Football Development Camp will be held in Midleton Gaa Club from 10am to 2pm. The camp is open to girls from U8-U16. To book a place log onto the Cork LGFA website.

There will be No Training this Bank Holiday Monday. Enjoy the break.

Camogie

Another busy week for Midleton Camogie Club first up our U10’s who were back in action on Saturday morning when we travelled to Ballynoe to play a strong St Catherine’s side. In lovely sunshine both teams played some wonderful camogie with the Midleton girls displaying all of the skills that they work so hard on in training. The girls are really starting to gel as a team and we look forward to the go games blitzes which will be kicking off in the next few weeks. With a lot of girls away on holidays we had a few special guests this morning. Thanks to Ciara McGrath for stepping in and to Saoirse Morey who made a huge step up from the U8’s and did very well!

Our U12 girls were away to St Catherine's where a great game was played also last Saturday morning with Midleton just losing out by a single goal, a big thank you to all the parents who travelled to support us, the girls really appreciate this.

Cork U15 A team won the All Ireland camogie blitz in Abbotstown Dublin on Sunday last

Yvonne Abernethy played left half back as Cork topped their group by beating Dublin (3-10 to 0-02) and Tipperary (6-14 to 0-01). In the semi final, Cork played Wexford in a very physical encounter, an early deflected goal put Cork behind before a very strong comeback saw Cork come through 0-09 to 1-02. Cork then played Dublin in final after the dubs had beaten Kilkenny. The Dublin side was much changed from the first meeting between the sides but Cork were still able to come through after a great game by a score of 3-03 to 2-01

Our U13 team had a great win against Fr O’Neills in Ahavine in the 3rd round of Imokilly league. Great team play & defending with some super scores from our forwards. It was a great contest between two evenly matched teams, with Midleton just getting on top towards the end .Team F .Dunlea J . Fitzgerald , M Ni Conchubhair E O Neil ,L Goulding , R Finn , I Nestor, A Naghton , K Quirke, S Ni Teangana , G Kelleher, R Ryan , B Ryan , S OBrien , R Greene

The U10’s took part in the first go games blitz of the season on Saturday afternoon. The girls were excellent in games against Cobh, Aghada and Dungourney. Thanks to Dungourney for hosting the blitz and we look forward to plenty of rematches over the next 2 months! Thanks also to the parents for braving the weather conditions and to Laura for refereeing the three games! Next up for the girls is a home match against Sars on Sunday August 11th.

Hard luck to our U15 girls who battled hard against Carrigtwohill this weekend in the Imokilly league. Well done to Carrigtwohill.

Paddy’s brother Billy was a very good underage player with the club and captained the Cork minors in 1950.
