On Saturday last we made the short trip to Rostellan to take part in the latest under 8 Rebel Og football blitz. On what was a cold morning we had 30 young and enthusiastic magpies togged and ready for action. Games were played against Aghada,  Killeagh,  Carrigtwohill, Youghal and Castlelyons. Progress continues to be made by this group and the morning was enjoyed by all. We took a well deserved break for the long weekend and we are back in action with the big ball again on Saturday 27th April.

Fé12

On Sunday we followed up with a good win over Blackrock in the C3 hurling league. Again, from the off we got on top early with some fine hurling played from Captain Jake Kirby, Noah Cahill, Tomas Geary, Patrick O Dowd ( 1-01 )and Josh Hogan ( 0-4 pts ). The Rockies however are not a team to yield easily and battled hard and at the short whistle we were 2-06 to 1-02 in front. On the resumption we picked up from were we left off with some fine scores from Lochlann Stewart ( 2-01 ) Cian Stack ( 0-01 ). We finished the game strong and there was fine work from Shane O Connor, Rhys Quill , Daniel Donovan ( 1-00 ). FINAL SCORE Midleton 6-07 Blackrock 2-05

Fé 13

Na Piarsaigh were the visitors to Clonmult Pairc on Wednesday night last for our first home game of the C3 Hurling League. It was a perfect evening for hurling with a dry sod and light winds on a sunny evening. From the early exchanges it was obvious that our lads had too much firepower for a game Na Piarsaigh side. With our forwards seeing plenty of the ball Sean McSharry was on fire knocking over some fantastic points from play. Odhran Dennigan and Jack Foley and Callum O’Brien in the half forward line were dominating the play and supplying our inside forwards with plenty of ball, they made hay rattling off 2 goals and 6 points in the first 15mins. Na Piarsaigh then rallied and had us under pressure for the next 10 mins but they couldn’t break down our back line in which Aaron O Donavan (making his debut), Josh Carey, John Paul McManus , Adam O Connor and Ben Fitzpatrick were excellent. We finished the half strongly and held a strong lead at half time. The second half saw the visitors give us a much sterner test however we continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Callum Deegan at midfield and Shane Mc Namara up front were having fine games, Shane cracking in a fine goal which gave the keeper no chance. Na Piarsaigh to their credit kept trying to force their way back into the game and were eventually rewarded with a goal, they had us under pressure now but squandered a number of scoring opportunities . Our forwards were not so wasteful, and kept the Piarsaigh backs very busy. Piarsaigh then struck over a beautiful point from play and followed this with a well struck goal, our lads had the final say with a Jack Foley point and Sean McSharry getting an excellent individual goal . Well done to the lads on a second win in the campaign next up is Sars in Glanmire Community College pitch on Wednesday evening , this will be a much sterner test

Fé 16

On Tuesday evening our Fé16’s travelled to The Glen for the second of their League games. These matches are always tough encounters with Midleton coming out on top in the last few meetings. From the very start it was very tight with both teams getting on the scoreboard early. Half time score was Midleton 1-07, The Glen, 2-03. The second half saw The Glen starting stronger and getting the points on the board made the difference. Full time score Midleton 1-10, The Glen 3-11

Scorers for Midleton on the night Darragh McCarthy, Phelim Magan, Ciarmhac Smyth and Tiernán Roche.

Ladies Football

Midleton Ladies Football Club were delighted to welcome Waterford Inter County Hurler Austin Gleeson to Midleton Gaa Club on Friday. The Club recently won a set of playing Jerseys from Balon Sports which were kindly sponsored by Murphy’s Gloves and Sliotars. Austin very kindly took time out from his busy training schedule to travel up from Waterford to present our U14 team with the fantastic gear. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to him and wish him all the best in this year’s Championship with his Club Mount Sion and Wateford.

Best of Luck to our U14 girls who will represent East Cork in the Cork Reginal Feile tomorrow Monday in Mallow. They have Clonakility, Mourneabbey and Éire Og in their group.

Fé 12

Our Fé 12’s were out on Thursday evening for a practice game away to Ballyphehane LGFA. It was a lovely bright evening for a game of football. The girls played well. And took full advantage of this practice game to hone their skills. They came away with a win on the night. The team on the night were: Roisín McManus, Cáit O’ Leary Hayes, Ciara Murphy, Lily Kelly, Caoilinn Fraser, Hannah O Brien, Rebecca Ryan, Leah Costigan, Ciara McGrath, Emma Keeshan, Emma Fitzgerald, Sadhbh Cronin, Sheila O’ Leary Hayes, Nora O’ Leary Hayes.

Fé16

In the U16 B East Cork League our girls travelled to Shanagarry on Saturday morning last. In a terrific game of football in sun drenched Shanagarry, Midleton came out on top on a score line of 4:15 to 2:4. To put it simply a fantastic game of ball from two very committed teams. The score not doing justice to the gallant efforts of the St Coleman’s girls. Unfortunately for the St Coleman’s girls, they came up against one of the best performances that this bunch of girls have produced this year.

The game started with us winning the ball from the throw in and stormed into a 1:2 lead. We camped in St Coleman’s side of the pitch for the first 10 minutes. It took a while for St Colemans to get into the game, but when they did, they stormed into the game, and owned the middle 10 minutes, scoring 1:2, and from then it was relentless stuff from one end of the field to another. Great pace from both sets of girls. However 5 minutes before half time Midleton with good passing movement stormed into a half time lead of 3:8 to 1:2.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first with St Colemans commanding the middle 10mins and Midleton the first and last 10 min periods.

Final Score Midleton 4:15 St Colemans 2:4

Great credit to both teams who fought for every ball and served up a great entertaining game for the large crowd that came out to support the girls. Well done to the Midleton girls on a deserved win.

We wish all the U14 girls the very best in the County Feile on Bank Holiday Monday in Mallow GAA complex.
