Senior Hurling
Last Saturday evening the 4th of February, we played a challenge match versus the host team Bishopstown. We were kindly invited there for the official opening of their new floodlights.
It turned out to be a great game for both teams and for the time of the year it was very worthwhile with a strong Bishopstown team prevailing by a score line of 1-12 to 0-11.
Team: Tommy Wallace, Seadnaidh Smyth, Alywin Kearney, Elliot Mulcahy, Padraig O Keefe, James Nagle, Leslie Coughlan, Seamus O Farrell, Sean O Farrell, Padraig Nagle, Aidan Ryan, Eoghan Walsh, Cormac Beausang, Declan Ryan & Michael Abernethy.
Halftime substitutions were Darren Quirke, Gavin Bagnell, Billy O Shea, Alan Stanton , Luke Dineen and Ian Kennefick.
Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and at the weekend bar match activity.

Junior Football
Our footballers will get their East Cork League campaign off to a start next Sunday when we take on Erins Own in Caherlag @ 12.

East Cork Championship Draws
Last Thursday evening in the Gaa Club the Draw’s for the East Cork Championships were made, we were drawn to play as follows;
Junior A Football v St Catherines, U21B Football v Castlemartyr, Junior B Hurling v Sars and Junior C Hurling v Sars.

Inter County Hurling
The Cork senior hurlers will begin their Allianz Division 1A League campaign next Saturday evening against Clare in Pairc Ui Rinn @ 7pm, we wish selector Pat Hartnett and our club players the very best in this game. (The panel has not been announced yet). 

Hurling Helmet Information
The GAA would like to remind all players at all levels in all Hurling Games and Hurling Practice Sessions it is mandatory for, and the responsibility of, each individual player to wear a helmet with a facial guard that meets the standards set out in IS:335 or other replacement standard as determined by the National Safety Authority of Ireland (NSAI).
All players are advised that in the event of a head injury occurring, if the helmet being worn does not meet the standard or is modified or altered from the original manufactured state, they are not covered under the terms of the GAA Player Injury Fund. Further details at http://learning.gaa.ie/mouthguardshurlinghelmets

Mouth guard Information
Since January 1st 2014, it has been mandatory for players in all grades to wear a mouth guard in all Gaelic football games and practice sessions.
The introduction of this rule has led to a drop of 37% in the number of dental injury claims made via the GAA Injury benefit fund, resulting from incidents in Gaelic football training sessions and matches in grades up to Minor in 2013. At adult level a similar drop of 39% has occurred, proving the benefits of wearing a mouth guard in reducing the risk of dental injuries. Key Points
 ~ All Gaelic footballers must wear a mouth guard in practice sessions and matches.
 ~ It is the responsibility of each individual player to use a mouth guard
~ A properly fitted mouth guard is the best available protective device for reducing the incidence and severity of sports-related dental injuries
~ Players can be sent-off in a game for not wearing a mouth guard
~ Players will not be covered under the GAA player injury scheme if they don’t comply with the mouth guard rule
~ No Mouth guard? No Game!

Mouth guard Exemption - A player can apply for a mouth guard exemption application from which can be requested by e-mailing playerwelfare@gaa.ie , the player in question must provide supporting medical evidence clearly stating why a mouth guard cannot be worn.

Last Man Standing
This weekend saw the first round of fixtures in the competition take  place, victory’s for Chelsea, Spurs, Everton and an injury time winner for Man City kept the bulk of the 600 odd entrants involved for another week.
Well done to all those involved in making this event such a great success once again.

Health & Wellbeing
REMINDER - Midleton GAA Health & Wellbeing committee has arranged a presentation for Parents on Internet Safety & Cyberbullying. This will take place in the Club on Monday the 13th of February at 7.30pm €2 cover charge tea/coffee will be served – All Welcome

Ladies Football
Unfortunately the weather hampered the return of our U10's last week. Hopefully this Monday night will be in our favour to get the season off to a start. Please ensure that the coach or the Club phone has up to date contact details for any last minute changes in training. The Club Phone is 087-3481925.
Our under 8 group is looking for help on a Monday Night. If you think you may be interested please talk to Tracy. Congratulations to our Club Members Clodagh Finn, Lucy Wallace and Ali Smith who were selected to the Cork U16 Camogie Panel.

Camogie
Our Under 14’s & Under 16’s continue training on Friday evening in Midleton Community Centre,   7pm -8.30pm.Under 12’s and Under 10’s planned return to training was hampered by the recent heavy rainfall  all parents in this age group will receive a text  with details of  training plan for  the week ahead. Under 6’s and Under 8’s will return to training on 3rd March Midleton Community Centre.

Our Lotto Jackpot was €9,000, there was no winner, the numbers were 2,4,22 & 27, the Lucky Dip winners were Doris O’Regan, Aaron O’Brien, Willie Nagle, Catherine Desmond and Amy O’Driscoll, next week’s Jackpot will be €9,200.

Code of Behaviour Underage
Midleton Juvenile Club, Midleton Camogie Club and Midleton Ladies Football Club have adopted a Code of Behaviour for our Underage players aged 5 to 18 years.  The document outlines the main points of the code of ethics, conduct & practice for all club officials, officers, members, mentors, players, parents/guardians associated across all Clubs.
We encourage all our members to review this information and familiarise yourself with the standards expected by and in the club. membership

Child Protection & Welfare Training Course
To facilitate the new coaches across the clubs Midleton GAA will host a Child Protection & Welfare Training Course on Tuesday the 21st of February from 6.45 to 9.30pm at Midleton GAA Club.

Benchmarking Rewards Conference
As a reward for all clubs who completed the Benchmarking 2020 Gold, Silver & Bronze Award and submitted their application for 2016, Rebel Og Coaching and Games will hold a conference with three speakers on the day who will address key areas of development and provide ideas and solutions for clubs to help run a fluent Juvenile GAA club.
Midleton GAA Club achieved the Gold Award. 
The conference will take place in Nemo Rangers on Saturday the 11th of February at 12.30. The three key speakers are, Kevin O’ Donovan, Brian Cuthbert & Noel Furlong

Foundation Training Course
Midleton GAA Club is running a Foundation Training course at the Club on Tuesday the 28th of February and Tuesday the 7th of March at 7pm.  The course will be facilitated by a Rebel OG Tutor.  In order to attend Foundation Training you need to Garda Vetted and have completed the Child Protection Awareness Training. Please note that this is will be the only Foundation Course held at Midleton GAA this year.

Rebel Og Nursery Workshop
On Saturday 25th February Rebel Og Coaching will host a Coaching Nursery (4-7 yr olds) Coaching/Best Practice Workshops in RANDAL ÓG followed by one in MALLOW (a choice of 2 venues to pick from).

Kevin Murray: Coaching Movement and experienced child coach
Dr Wesley O’ Brien: Lecturer and expert in Child/Youth Movement
This is a can’t miss event for anyone coaching or teaching children between the ages of 4 and 7. Some information will be suitable for older ages, so mentors of all groups are welcome.
