Michael "Bonzo" Tobin Challenge game

31 August, 2016

It was with great shock that we learnt of the sudden passing of Mick "Bonzo" Tobin late of St Mary's Rd during Christmas week last year.

Mick was a former Football Secretary, Vice President, a long serving officer, selector and member with his adopted Magpies for many years, having served "The Shamrocks" in Knockanore previously.

He acted as a minor selector from 1984 to 1989 when the club won four County hurling titles, he became Minor Secretary for the Club in 1989 and continued in this role for many years later becoming Football Secretary right up to his passing. Mick was a very popular representative for the Club at the East Cork Board meetings for a number of years, he had a great relationship with all the Club delegates and indeed the Officers also.

In recent times he will be remembered for overseeing the tremendous success of the Club's Junior B & C Hurling teams, along with his fellow selectors Gavin Power and Ger Lawton when they created history winning four East Cork "B" Championships in a row from 2009 - 2012 and three "C" Championships in a row from 2011-2013.

The Executive Committee in agreement with the Knockanore Shamrocks Club in Waterford have arranged a Hurling Challenge game this Saturday evening at 6.45pm in Midleton in Mick's memory and welcome everybody to attend.
The game will be preceded by a Rebel Og Premier 1 Hurling League game between Midleton and Blarney @ 5pm.

Refreshments, finger food and some tales will be the order of the evening afterwards in the Club Lounge with Mick's family and friends in attendance.

We look forward to meeting you
