Midleton GAA , Camogie & Ladies Football Club News

25 October, 2015

Senior Hurling
Our hurlers had a very good victory over Newtownshandrum in the RedFM County League semi final last Thursday in Mallow. A fantastic last quarter yielding three goals and six points sent us into the League final where we will meet either Blackrock or Erins Own on the weekend of the 7/8th November.
The first half was very even early on but towards half time they took the initiative and scored two goals to give them a lead of 2-10 to 0-12 at the break. A well taken goal from Patrick White kept us in touch with fifteen minutes to go. Then we hit a purple patch, some great work by Peter Dowling and clinical finishing by Brian Hartnett with a hat trick of goals put us firmly in the driving seat and we never looked back.
We closed out the game and ran out deserved winners on a scoreline of 4-21 to 2-18.
Team: Tommy Wallace, Cillian Hurley, Alywin Kearney, Patrick O’Mahony, Killian Burke (0-01), Finbar O’Mahony, Seanaidh Smyth (0-01), Paul Haughney (0-03), Seamus O’Farrell, Leslie Coughlan, Peter Dowling, Cormac Walsh (0-06, 5 frees), Patrick White (1-04), Luke O’Farrell (0-04) & Brian Hartnett (3-01). Subs used Declan Ryan, Luke Dineen & Darren Quirke (0-01).

Fe15
On Saturday last in Cobh, we unexpectedly but deservedly reached the final of the Fe 15 Premier 1 Football Championship with a sweet victory over City Football linchpins Nemo Rangers by 1-11 to 0-11.
Make no mistake here, we were the outsiders in this contest but with grit, determination and no shortage of skill we lead from start to finish.
We won the toss and chose to play with the stiff breeze. Early in the half we knocked over three frees and looked the better team. Nemo though looked very dangerous on the break and attacked in numbers. They had two points in the first quarter from their impressive No 5. At half time at 0-8 to 0-6 and facing into a wind that was strengthening we had it all to do in the second half. However our lads showed great teamwork and work rate to negate the wind advantage and in a purple patch mid way through the half we had a goal and a point to lead by seven points. From there to the end it was all shoulders to the wheel. We defended well and while Nemo challenged hard and scored four points on the trot, our backs played well and ensured that Nemo never got a goal chance that they needed. At the final whistle it was that all important goal that we scored in the second half that was the difference between the teams.
We now play Douglas in the final on Nov 1st with the time and venue yet to be set.
Team: Jake Shanahan, Alan Power, Cormac O Brien, Mark Daly, Christian Murphy, Ciaran Evans, Conor O Leary, Ross O Regan, Kevin Finn, Evan Rowlands, Cian Murray, Kian Farmer, Gary Carroll, Tommy O Connell, Griffin Hurley, Ronan Lynch, Fergus Wade, Adam O Connell, Coleman Quinn, Craig Barry, Ryan O Riordan, David Scanlon, Aaron Mulcahy & Cian Crowley.
