Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Senior Hurling
Our hurlers had a very impressive win over local rivals Carrigtwohill last Sunday morning in Midleton in the RedFM League. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half we led at the break by 1.08 v 1.06. We totally dominated the second half, took some great scores and our defence were always well on top.
Final Score Midleton 5-17 v Carrigtwohill 1-09.
Team: Tommy Wallace, Elliot Mulcahy, Finbar O’Mahony, Darren Quirke, Peter Dowling, Aidan Ryan, Patrick O’Mahony, Killian Burke, Paul Haughney, Seamus O’Farrell, James Nagle, Cormac Walsh, Brian Hartnett & Patrick White. Subs used Alywin Kernaey, Padraig O’Shea, Padraig O’Keeffe, Michael Abernethy & Shane Ryan.
Our Senior Hurling Championship game v Killeagh is fixed for Sunday 17th May in Castlemartyr @ 3.30pm ET

Fe21 Football
There was a great turnout from the U21 football panel for last Saturday night’s championship match v Glanmire in Sallybrook. A number of the players had to switch shifts to allow them make the game. The underfoot conditions were excellent at the Glanmire venue but there was a persistent rain that fell for the duration of the game. The game itself started on time but unfortunately Glanmire took the initiative right from the start. They were able to accumulate a couple of points on the score board before our boys got into the game. Nevertheless this team of ours was not made for throwing in the towel and they rallied manfully for the remainder of the half.
The half time score was 1-06 to 0-01 in favour of Glanmire. The second half followed the same pattern as the first half and Glanmire ran out winners at the final whistle on a score line of 1-12 to 0-02. It’s a pity our guys didn’t get some early scores that they richly deserved because of their work rate on the night. The score line does them an injustice and they can all be proud of their efforts for the sixty minutes. Special thanks to Gerry Smith, Conor Murray, Vincent O’Neill and especially Michael Tobin for their input to this team; Beidh ár lá teacht!
Final Score Glanmire 1-12 v Midleton 0-02
Team: Josh Deady, Jack Enright, Gavin Bagnell, Elliot Mulcahy, Billy O’Shea, Darren Quirke, Sean O’Meara, Alan Stanton, Luke Morrissey, Cormac Beausang, Kieran Maloney, Sean O’Farrell, Michael Abernethy, Bryan Rossiter & Andrew Rea (capt.). Subs used Patrice Tschmanga, Luke Dineen, Padraig O’Brien & Adam Daly, unused Eoin Collins & Conor Evans.

JUVENILE  NOTES

Fe 12
Our first game of the Premier Football League was played on Saturday 7th of March v Na Piarsaigh at a very windy Tech field, Midleton. This was the first time in a long while that Midleton have contested at the Premier U12 level in football; so there was a lot of nervousness going into the game. The field at the tech is holding up well to all of the traffic that’s going through it at the moment. We won the coin toss and played with the wind in the first half. Midleton dominated possession from the start but our shooting prevented us from taking a much deserved commanding lead. Our tacking, fielding and general all round play was of a very high standard. James O’Sullivan, Evan Kelly, C Smyth, Shay Bohan, Alex Quirke were all to the forefront in our first half performance. At half time the score line was 0-2 to 0-1 to Midleton. The second half was all about luck, Na Piarsaigh had bags of it while we had none of it. On at least 5 times our forwards carved open the Na Piarsaigh defence but to find the final shot either hitting the crossbar or the upright. Darragh McCarthy on at least three occasions was unlucky not to find the net. It was the theme of the second half, Midleton dominating possession but Na Piarsaigh breaking out of defence and picking off their scores. Ronan Gies and Darragh McCarthy were excellent in the second half. The final score was Midleton 0-5, Na Piarsaigh 2-3.
Midleton Panel: R Gies, L McGrath, E McCarthy, F Greenwood, J O’Sullivan, D Connolly, C Smyth, D Codd, S Bohan, C Murray, D McCarthy, N Fitzgerald, B O’Neill, A Quirke, E Kelly, R Hartnett, P McGann,  J Condon.
