Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Senior Hurling
Last Friday evening in Riverstown ourselves and the hosts played out a very entertaining draw in the RedFm Senior Hurling League. A nice crowd gathered to watch a re run of the County final and they weren’t disappointed. There was plenty of great defending and equally some well taken scores from both sides, in the end a draw was a fair result for two sides without a number of regulars.

Team: Joe Loftus, Eoin Ferriter, Finbar O Mahony, Aylwin Kearney, Leslie Coughlan, James Nagle, Seamus O Farrell, Darren Quirke Peter Dowling, Eoin Walsh, Aidan Ryan, Padraig O Shea, Brian Hartnett, Luke O Farrell & Padraig Nagle. Subs used Seanaidh Smyth, Cillian Hurley & Elliot Mulcahy.

Healthy Club Project
Healthy Club Project team members Gavin Power, Jerome Curtin & Pearse McCarthy travelled to beautiful Beaufort near Killarney where they received a very warm welcome for an Operational Group Meeting with all the other Munster clubs involved.

This is the final year of this worthwhile project. The idea of these meetings is to share ideas on how to promote Health & Well-being in our Communities. We have been working hard to promote any ideas that anyone has, be it for mental or physical health. One of the most interesting items on the agenda was the booklet we received called 'PLAY IN MY BOOTS’ which comes from the Walk in My Shoes campaign. This campaign of St. Patrick's Mental Health Foundation which raises awareness for mental health and funds to provide mental health services to vulnerable young adults.
PLAY IN MY BOOTS: A Mental Health Guide for Players, Coaches, Clubs & Communities. Our own Conor Lehane features in the booklet along with other football, ladies football, camogie and hurling stars from across the country which can be downloaded at www.playinmyboots.ie
“The more we bottle our problems up the more exaggerated they can become in our own head, its okay to tell someone you are not okay"
Conor Lehane  - Midleton, Cork & UCC Hurler
It is an interesting guide for all as it focuses on mental fitness for ages 12-17, club & college players, teams & tips for coaches.

Fe14
On Saturday last the Midleton U14 hurlers participated in the annual Conor Kennedy blitz at the invitation of Moycarkey Borris.
In the first game we played Erin's Own of Kilkenny and came out winners in a bruising contest on a scoreline of 4-7 to 0-4. In the next game against Naas we started slowly and played against the driving wind and rain. Naas ran up a big score in the opening half and while we fared much better in the second half, Naas won 4-10 to 1-5. In the Shield Final we beat Na Piarsaigh of Limerick by 2-8 to 2-4. This was good preparation for the Regional Feile finals coming up on 21st June. On Monday we play Bandon in the QF of the Premier 2 Football Championship in Ballinure.
Team that represented Midleton in the Moycarkey tournament was: Ross Shanahan, Christian Murphy, Alan Power, Cormac O Brien, Sean O Sullivan, Ciaran Evans, Kian Farmer, Griffin Hurley, Cian Murray, Evan Rowlands, Tommy O Connell, Jake Shanahan, Sam Quirke, Ross O Regan, David Scanlon, Fergus Wade, Ryan O Riordan, Mark Daly, Niall Higgins, Coleman Quinn, Craig Barry, Gary Carroll, Ronan Lynch, Adam O Connell, Cian Crowley.
