Midleton Hurling & Football Notes

Senior Hurling Championship County Final
All roads lead to Pairc Ui Chaoimh next Sunday afternoon when our senior hurlers will take on Sars in the County Hurling final @ 3pm.
After a wait of 19 years we now look forward to the final, one which all young players aspire to play in and hopefully we can maintain our level of performance for one more game. Our opposition Sars are very experienced and are appearing in their fifth final in six years and will go into the game as favourites.
Last Sunday afternoon in the GAA Club at the press briefing a huge crowd turned out to wish the players and management well. Many thanks to everyone who helped out on the day and thanks to the Press also for playing their part.
We appeal to the people and businesses of the town to get out your Black & White colours in support of this great bunch of young men representing the town.
The executive of the Club would especially like to thank the following business who assisted in the preparation of the team, East Cork Oil, Hurleys Super Valu, O Briens Garage, Healy Agri Supplies, Mc Carthy Investment Services, Blackwater Motors & Bank of Ireland Midleton. There are a number of other individuals who wish to remain anonymous and we thank them also.

Fe21 Hurling
What a busy week it was for our Fe21 hurlers, on Wednesday night last we played Castlelyons in the semi final in Carrigtwohill and after a nervous start we settled into the game and led at the break by 0-10 to 0-06. Early in the second half we took the initiative and killed the game off with well taken goals from Michael Abernethy and Cormac Walsh. We ran out convincing winners on a score line of 2-18 to 0-11.
Team: Tommy Wallis, Neil O Regan, Patrick O Mahony, Elliot Mulcahy, Darren Quirke, Finbar O Mahony, Leslie Coughlan (0-01), Killian Burke, Sean O Farrell, Padraig Nagle, Brian O Sullivan, Conor Lehane (0-12, 7 free’s), Cormac Walsh 1-01), Brian Hartnett (0-03) & Michael Abernethy (1-01). Subs used Padraig O Farrell, Gavin Bagnell, Alan Stanton & Gavin Hurley.

Then last Saturday after noon the rain eventually stopped and allowed the Final v Erins Own take place in Cobh @ 3pm. Playing with aid of a very strong wind in the first half and only leading by 1-07 to 1-05 at halftime with the goal coming from Conor Lehane things did not look great. But right from the throw in we completely got on top and gave a great second half performance to clinch our third Fe21 East Cork hurling title in a row on a score of 2-19 to 1-07. We now go forward in the County Championship against Mallow on a date to be confirmed. Congrats to all the players and selectors on this magnificent victory.
