Street Leagues 2013
The long awaited Street leagues finally got underway on Saturday morning in the main field. This is being run on a league basis with each team playing five league games with top two qualifying for the Final to be played on the Saturday the 12 of October. Six teams equally divided between Fe10s and Fe11s with 12 players on each team thus giving Seventy Two of Midleton’s finest on view.
On Saturday morning we had six games in total with each player getting one hours hurling. I think it is fair to say anyone who came up to watch or had a son or grandson involved must have been thrilled to see such a high standard of hurling from all the lads involved. The skill level and hunger to win the ball was second to none from these Player’s.
For player’s that had never played with each other before coaches were a bit sceptical how lads would react to each other but to hear the lads at half time in these matches egging each other on was an absolute pleasure to watch leaving one to think the future is bright for these current crop of Magpies.
For anyone who has an interest in watching underage hurling and trying to pick out the Stars of the future the next round of the Street leagues is taking place on Saturday 5 great to see Parent’s, Grandparent’s, Player’s and anyone else watching and encouraging these lads. For sure ye will not be disappointed.

Players to shine on the day were Christopher Leahy, Rory Hartnett, Alex Quirke, Evan Mc Carthy, Oliver Murray, Darragh Mc Carthy, Daithi Magan, Kane Rollands, Nicky Hayes, David Connolly.
After week one it is Limerick with 10-15 and Kilkenny 8-12 who share the spoils at the top of the league with 4pts each followed by Waterford 12-8 and Cork10-12 with 2pts each and bring up the rear we have Tipperary 9-2 and Clare 4-5. Looking forward to Round Two already with a few lads missing through injury and a few away I am sure the teams at the top will have to work to hold onto their league positions. Well done to all involved keep up the good work.
