Juvenile Notes

Fe 10/Fe 11
Many years ago we had the famous and sometimes infamous Road Leagues as an annual event in Midleton for underage players.
The teams represented at the time were The Son's of Rest (Cork rd/Knockgriffin area), Garryowen (Mill Rd/Elsinore area), The Forkum's (Town area) and The Saints (Castleredmond/Ballinacurra area).
Many's a star from Midleton's past and present started out in these Leagues and no doubt amongst today's young players there will be stars of tomorrow. With the huge population increase in the Midleton area we now must look at catering for as many young boys as possible, providing them with regular games and coaching throughout the year.
On Saturday week the 10th of August the Juvenile Club propose to begin a trial Street League Hurling Tournament which will take place each Saturday thereafter in the main GAA Club field over a number of weeks culminating in a day for the finals.
In the Street Leagues, "Every Childs a winner", the final's day will be a family oriented day, where every child comes away a winner.

Fe16
Rebel Og Fe 16 Premier 2 Hurling Championship 1st Round; Midleton 6-13 Carrigaline 3-17
Our Fe 16 Hurlers advanced to the next round of the Cork U16 Premier 2 Hurling Championship defeating Carrigaline in the 1st Round on Monday 29th July.
Played in a sunny, but breezy Passage West, both teams treated the crowd to an excellent, tough and open game of hurling, with superb commitment and great hurling to the fore. Carrigaline, playing with the aid of the breeze in the 1st Half, started smartly, and some excellent scoring put Midleton under pressure from the off.
Carrigaline led 1-03 to 0-10 pts after 25 mins, and were physically imposing themselves on their Midleton counterparts. A strong 5 min period prior to Half-Time by Midleton narrowed the deficit at the short whistle to Midleton 2-05 Carrigaline 0-13, a scoreline which flattered Midleton after being under such pressure.
Some positional & personnel changes for Midleton at half-time resulted in us getting the upper hand upon the resumption of play, and the teams were soon level on a scoreline of Midleton 3-07 to Carrigaline 1-13. What followed was a gallant and manly contest, as both teams went toe-to-toe for the next 20 mins of play.
Having being under pressure for 40 mins, the Midleton rear guard got to grips with their opponents, and this formed the platform for the Magpies attack to get the scores that followed. The frantic and exciting scoring brought the score to Midleton 5-10 to
Carrigaline 3-17 with 3 mins of time remaining, before a strong, positive and productive finish of 1-03 by Midleton ensured we held out for a well deserved victory, on a final scoreline of Midleton 6-13 to Carrigaline 3-17.Obviously everybody involved is delighted with the victory in such a great game, especially with 6-11 of Midletons' 6-13 coming from play. However, the concession of silly frees and soft goals needs to be eradicated if we are to go any further in the competition.
Our team was represented by: Eoin Moloney, Conor O'Neill, Ryan McConville, James O'Brien, Conor Evans, Seadnaidh Smyth, Jack Enright,Luke Finnerty, Sean O'Meara, Jordan Roche, Kevin Mulcahy, Cormac Beausang, Padraig O'Brien, Christopher Power, Sean O'Leary, Adam Daly, Garan Manley, Cathal Gunning, Eoghan Collins, Mark Crotty, Thomas Scanlon & Shane O'Brien.
