Willie “Matey” Hennessy RIP
Last Thursday we sadly lost a great character in Willie Hennessy better known as Matey. He had bravely fought his illness over the last number of years and passed away peacefully in the care of the staff of Cork University Hospital and surrounded by his family. He played hurling and football for his club and played hurling for Imokilly and Cork Intermediates. His playing career began in the mid 50’s and continued to the early 70’s, he played Senior, Intermediate and Junior hurling and junior football with the club throughout these years. He was an integral part of the Midleton team which won the Intermediate County hurling final in 1962 and was selected the following year on the Cork Intermediate team which beat Waterford in Midleton and subsequently lost after to Tipperary. Indeed he was honored with the captaincy of this team and was joined on it by Patrick Flanagan. He also donned the Imokilly jersey on many occasions in the senior hurling championship.
Past and present club players turned out in force at both his removal and funeral.
We extend our deepest sympathy’s to his family sons John and Roland, daughters Samantha, Aisling and Heather, his grandchildren, brothers, sister, and many other relatives, neighbors and friends.
There’s no doubt he’s now re united with his late wife Marie and their great friends Mick & Kathleen Lordan all whose anniversaries occur around this time.

Juvenile Notes

Gum Shields
From the 1st of January 2013 it is now compulsory for juvenile players to wear gum shields (mouth Guards). The rule relates to both football training and matches. This ruling has come from GAA Headquarters and anybody not wearing a gum shield who subsequently gets injured during a match or training session will not be covered by GAA insurance.
GAA recommended Gum Shields can be purchased from our juvenile club sponsor Murphy’s Pharmacy in Midleton. John has just got stock of the recommended gumshields and the standard model can be bought for €7.
John and his staff can advise on sizes and suitability.

Training
Indoor training for our three youngest groups will recommence on Saturday 19th of January. For other teams their coaches will be texting out shortly with details of their training times. Once times are available they will be updated here on the club website www.midletongaa.com .On the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times will be posted. Remember Gumshields are now compulsory and should be brought to all training sessions. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. For players from junior infants to Fe 9 please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
