An Poc Fada 2012

Poc Fada 2012

When the sudden death of Sean Keohane occured on Friday 11th of March 2011 it sent shock waves throughout the GAA Community in Midleton, Cork and Nationally. His passing was mourned by all his fellow gaels but paled in comparison to the tragic loss suffered by his family. Our thoughts especially at this time are with Mary his wife, son Micheal, daughters Fiona and Denise and brothers Donal, Micheal and Ciaren.
Sean gave a lifetime of service to the GAA in Midleton, East Cork and Cork County where his passion and commitment were legendary.
He represented Midleton as a player for many years beginning his adult career as a minor in 1967, progressing to Junior hurling & football the following year. In 1975 he was an integral part of the Intermediate football team which won the County League title and was a also a member of the 1979 Intermediate football team which lost the County championship final. After his playing career ended he continued with the club as a selector on many teams.
He will perhaps be best remembered for the many administration roles he held down through the years.
In 1969 he took over the role of Football Secretary in the club in an emergency fashion due to a number of club officers recieving suspensions from the County Board because of illegality surrounding the Junior Football team which had reached the County final!
Sean worked tirelessly for many years on the Executive committee progressing to Registrar in 1988, PRO in 1991. He also was a member of the Juvenile commitee culminating in his chairmanship in 2005. In 2008 Sean made the leap to become Adult Club Chairman, a position he held for a number of years.
At East Cork Board level he represented the Club for a number of years as a Delegate and will best be remembered for his vigorous pursuit of all things Midleton. For many years He was a member of the County Minor Board (now Rebel Óg) and was rewarded for his service with the position of Chairman from where he drove the Board forward, he later became a Delegate to the County Adult Board where his was renowned for his strong opinions and the promotion of the Irish Language.
Sean was a real Gael, he wore his heart on his sleeve and it was often said that Black & White blood flowed through his veins!
Following his sad death ,his family in his memory presented the Sean Keohane Cup for Premier 1 Fe 14 hurling  to the Rebel Og Board. Recently at the request of the club, his family permitted the Juvenile Club to name their annual Poc Fada held each St Stephens day; "The Sean Keohane Memorial Perpetual Shield" for winners of the adult team competition.
"Ar dheis De go raibh a anam"

This year the Poc Fada starts at 10am on St Stephens day. Busses will leave from outside the club at 10am sharp.
Juvenile competition is in the Parent & Child format.
Please bring your own sliothars and spares if you think you'll need them?????????

Happy Christmas to all from the club.
