Midleton Gaa News 11th June 2012

11 June, 2012

Senior Hurling League
Midleton 0-20 Sarsfields 1-13
Our Senior were back in League action this past weekend. They travelled to Riverstown to face Sarsfields. After an entertaining hours hurling Midleton emerged victorious on a 0-20 to 1-13 scoreline. This was a welcome win over strong opposition and it puts us into third place in the League. We have twelve points from nine games, made up of five wins two draws and two losses. We have six League games left to complete. On the day we had a number of good performances and it was good to see Keith Ryan back on the field of play and looking none the worse for his time down under.

Avondhu / Imokilly Junior Hurling League
Sponsored by Cavanaghs of Fermoy
Midleton 2-16 St. Ita’s 0-05
Midleton Junior A hurlers had a comprehensive victory over St. Ita’s on Friday evening last in Midleton. We were well on top throughout and with our opening championship fixture against Erins Own on the 23rd Anthony Cody and his fellow selectors were keeping a close eye on proceedings. We picked up a couple of injuries on Friday evening and with a number of players also doing exams it is an anxious time for all involved. This win gives five victories and two losses from our seven games played. Erins top top the League with seven wins from seven games played. We have three games left to complete.

Cork Fe 21 Hurlers
The Club would like to pay tribute to our Club Members who were involved with the Cork Fe 21 Hurlers who narrowly lost out Tipperary in ther Munster quarter final on Wednesday of last week. Ger Fitzgerald was Team Coach, Martin McSweeney was the physical trainer. Conor Lehane captained the team from wing forward, Patrick O’Mahony played at right corner back. Paul Haughney was introduced as a substitute. Finbarr O’Mahony and Tommy Wallis was also a substitute and Killian Burke was on the extended panel. Well done to all involved and it was a pity to come out the wrong end of such a tight finish.

Juvenile Notes

Fe-10
Midleton’s Fe 11 Footballers welcomed Sam Maguires from Dunmanway on Saturday 9th of June. This match was one of a series of Rebel Óg League matches. Midleton have struggled in some of their previous football games but on this occasion the lads were on top from very early on. Our lads from goalie up to our full forward line played with confidence and no small amount of flair. We had some subs due to the low numbers from Sam Maguires and all played a good amount of ball. Because of the strength of the team on the day we took to opportunity to move the lads into positions they weren’t used to which will help in future should we need to move positions.
Well done to all those who played and keep up the good work.
Thanks also to Sam Maguires for making the trip from West Cork and giving our lads a good game.

Training
Training is in full swing for Juvenile teams. Check the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
We have re commenced the coffee morning on Saturdays. Parents with children practicing can get a free cup of coffee and admire their kids in action. Many thanks to those parents who are helping with the teas and coffees.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open on the first Saturday of each month. This will commence with the indoor training sessions in the Community Centre and then in the Club Pavilion once outdoor training re-commences.
