Senior Hurling League
Midleton 1-14 Erins Own 2-11
Our Senior Hurlers got their League campaign underway on Saturday last when they travelled to Caherlag to face Erins Own. The conditions were far from ideal with it being very heavy underfoot. Nevertheless both teams produced an entertaining game. Midleton were faster out of the blocks. Both sides exchanged early goals with Kieran Mulcahy forcing home the Midleton goal. Sean Hennessy was unerring from frees. Conor Lehane chipped in with a couple from play. Padraig O’Shea who started on the forty and Padraig O’Keefe also had fine scores. At half time Midleton led by 1-10 to 1-05 and were good value for it.
The second half was a reverse of the first half with Erins Own well on top for long periods. They had an early goal and were level within ten minutes of the resumption. They forged ahead and led by four points with ten minutes to play. Midleton had failed to score up to that point in the second half. A free from Conor Lehane left only three between the teams. Midleton were working hard and reduced the deficit to a point in the last minute. Then in the last play of the game Seamus O’Farrell levelled the scores.  Both teams would probably have been happy with the draw. Midleton were short a lot of players and will have some of them available for their next league game when they face Killeagh in Midleton on Saturday next, March 10th at 4pm. Best wishes to Killian Burke who picked up a heavy knock near the end of the game. Hopefully he will be available for the Killeagh game.

Juvenile Notes

Fe-11
Amidst a good breeze and some heavy rain showers, Midleton Fe11's played their first Football league game away to Mallow.
We made the trip with 20 players which meant all that travelled played a full game. We played two teams of ten, both playing 2 twenty minute halves.
It was always going to be a stiff challenge as Mallow would play a good deal more football than our lads. And as the first half got under way it looked ominous for both Midleton teams.
At the end of the first half we were on the wrong side of the scoreline in both matches. However the players were asked simply to tighten up on their opposition players and keep their heads up. To their great credit, each player gave their all in the second half and put up a far better challenge. However, even with the better performance the damage was done in the first half. The lads although disappointed know they are on a learning curve in Football and are looking forward to welcoming Mallow to Midleton for the Hurling league match.

Training
Training is in full swing for Juvenile teams. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open on the first Saturday of each month. This will commence with the indoor training sessions in the Community Centre and then in the Club Pavilion once outdoor training re-commences.

Kellogs 2012 Cúl Camp
The dates are out for this year’s Cúl Camp. The camp will take place from the 2nd to the 6th of July. Boys from Junior Infants up are welcome to attend. Further details will be available nearer the time for registration.

Juvenile Golf Classic
The Midleton Juvenile GAA Golf Classic will take place once again this year. Following on from the great success of last year we hope we will receive strong support again in 2012. The dates have been confirmed as Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of July. The competition will once again take place in East Cork Golf Club.
Once again the main sponsor will be Blackwater Motors Cork, Fermoy and Skibereen.
