Midleton GAA News 28th November

28 November, 2011

Dinner Dance
Our Annual Dinner Dance went ahead on Saturday Night last in the Midleton Park Hotel. The event was organised, as he has done for the last number of years, by Michael Keohane and what a fine job he did again this year. There was a good crowd in attendance representing both the Hurling and Football and Ladies Football Clubs. Hurling & Football Club Chairman Niall O’Neill addressed the gathering and congratulated all those in attendance on their respective successes through out the year. He also challenged the players present to continue with their efforts and maximise their obvious potential in the next few years and not to have regrets in years to come about what might have been by slackening off in their efforts now. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the player awards. The Ladies Player Award winners were Emma Keane at Minor level and Amy McCarthy for Junior. In recognition of their success with Cork teams this year awards were also presented to Orlagh Farmer who was in the All Ireland winning Senior squad and Amy McCarthy and Lisa Curtin who won All Ireland B medals. Niall Madden captured the Minor Footballer award, Seamus O’Farrell the Junior Football award and Luke O Farrell received the Fe 21 Football award for his outstanding displays at full back as the club captured the East Cork title after a long absence and reached the County Semi final where we lost to the eventual champions. In hurling Pa White won the Minor award, Brendan Ferriter the Junior C award as he captained the team to their first C title. Liam Clohessy won the Junior B award as he captured his third East Cork B medal as the Gavin Power managed B Hurlers completed the three in a row. Padraig O’Keefe won two awards on the night as he was voted Fe 21 Hurler of the year and Junior A hurler of the year. The awards were the icing on the cake for Padraig after the success of the Fe 21 hurlers in capturing the county title last weekend after a 22 years gap. The Senior hurler of the year award went to Aidan Ryan who led by example on and off the field again in 2011. Alan Donegan and Sean Corcoran provided a slide slow of pictures captured this year which was a treat to behold. The Midleton Park food and hospitality was to their usual high standard. Overall a great night and onwards and upwards for the Magpies in 2012.

Juvenile Notes

Fe-13
On Friday night last Nov 25th our Fe-13 Footballers made the trip to Mallow to take on Blarney in the Premier 2 County Final. Yet again in our football championship campaign we travelled short a few players who started in previous matches due to injury and illness and on the night we had only 20 players from the panel of 26 available to play which meant we were forced into yet more positional and personal changes. Blarney won the toss and opted to play into the wind for the opening half and they also got a great start when they went a goal to no score up inside the opening 3 minutes despite playing into the strong breeze. Our lads then began to settle in fairness and took control of the game and with some great team work and score taking we had recovered to lead at the break by 2-8 to 1-2. at the break some positional and tactical changes were made to counter the strong breeze and the lads concerned took to their new rolls in a very workman like manner and never left Blarney into the game as we continued to take the game to them and again with some great scores being taken we won in the end on a score of 5-16 to 2-4. This team has shown throughout this football campaign what they can achieve when they work for each other and keep going for the full duration of the game and despite never being able to field the same team twice in a row throughout the football championship all the boys who were involved in every game gave 100% for each other and they got their reward in the end. At the end of the game captain Jordan Roche accepted the cup on behalf of his team mates and paid fitting tribute to Blarney and all involved for a good nights football.
The panel on the night was J Roche (capt), L Franklin, C O'Neill, K Mulcahy, T Abdullah, S O'Leary, C Evans, A Daly, S O'Meara, C Daly, P O'Brien, E Moloney, R O'Reagan, R McConville, D Mulcahy, J Colhessey, J O'Dwyer, C Power, PJ Fitzgearld, D Cahalane missing on the night through injury or illness were the following players who all played a part in getting the team to the final at some stage were K Daly, R O'Connor, C Shanahan, G Manley, Shane O'Brien and Ronan O'Donovan well done to again all on a great result!

We Continue to train every Tuesday night in the Midleton College All Weather pitch from 6.50 to 8pm as we still have the hurling league semi-final against either Na Piarsaigh or Blackrock to play in the coming weeks.

Congratulations
The Juvenile committee would like to congratulate John Mulcahy, Martin McConville and the whole squad for their great County win. All the lads put in a great amount of work and have reaped their just reward.

Juvenile AGM
The Midleton Juvenile AGM took place on November 24th and was attended by a good number of interested parents.
This meeting unfortunately saw the stepping down of Chairman Coleman Quirke.
Midleton Juvenile club has been fortunate over the years to have some great Chairmen and Coleman will without question be at the top end of the list of greats.
Just like his playing career he gave fully of himself in pursuit of perfection, and was always on hand to help those on the committees both new and old. There are many players in the club at both underage and up to senior team level who in the past six years would have been helped by Coleman as Chairman. We hope you will make a point of saying thanks to Coleman as we do now.
Coleman we were fortunate to have you as Chairman and we wish you luck in the future in whatever you take on.
