Midleton Hurling and Football, Ladies Football and Camogie Club Notes - February, 15

15 February, 2024

IN THE RED OF CORK

Last Saturday was a busy one for Cork teams and as a result for Midleton players as the Rebels played the Kilkenny Cats at three different levels.

In the National Hurling League Cork came back from a very slow start to run Kilkenny all the way to the line before eventually losing out by a single point on a final scoreline of Cork 1-17 Kilkenny 0-21. Tommy O'Connell and Conor Lehane (pictured above) were two of Cork's top performers on the night in Supervalu Pairc Uí Chaoimh, while Brion Saunderson was an unused sub. Cork's next game is at home to Waterford on Sunday week.

In the curtain raiser to this game, the Cork minors had an mpressive 3-13 to 2-7 win over Kilkenny. Our own Peter Barrett scored 1-2 off the bench. Matthew McSweeney and Cian Stack are also involved with John Meyler's minor panel.

Earlier in the day, at Church Road, the Cork and Kilkenny U-20s met. Our own Mikey Finn and David Cremin both started the game. In the end the visitors emerged victorious on a final scoreline of 2-22 to 1-20. Following this game, manager Ben O'Connor, Terence McCarthy and the rest of the Rebels' management team announced their panel for their Munster Championship campaign. See below. Well done to Mikey and David and best of luck to them, Terence and all the players and management as they bid to retain their All-Ireland title.

EAST CORK U-21 B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

MIDLETON 2-7 GLENVILLE 1-13

Our U-21 footballers took on Glenville in the opening round of the East Cork Campionship in Clonmult Memorial Park.

We were first to score with a Rory Hartnett point and two points followed from Seam McSharry to put us three points up before Glenville got their first score. Despite the good start were trailed Glenville by three points at half time, 0-5 to 0-8.

Glenville dominated the third quarter but we pulled ourselves back into the game with a goal from Darragh Codd. Glenville added a couple of more points before we got the last score of the game with a goal from Odhran Dennigan. On the day the lads put in a great effort, but unfortunately this result ends our year in U-21 football.

MIDLETON: Odhran Rabbitte, Colin Sunderland, Adam Fay, Neill Fitzgerald, Darragh Codd (1-0), Darragh McCarthy, Sean Cronin, Evan McCarthy, Alex Moloney, Daire Mooney, Rory Hartnett (0-1), Ben Keneally, Eoghan Fraser, Cathal Beausang, Sean McSharry (0-5). Subs: Odhran Dennigan (1-1), Callum O'Brien, Josh Foley, James McSweeney and Cathraigh Cronin.
