IN THE RED OF CORK

The Cork senior hurlers were in Offaly last Sunday, where Conor started at centre forward and Brion was amongst the subs as they had huge win over the home side. Best of luck to Conor, Tommy, Brion and all the Cork players and manaagement on Saturday when they head to Wexford.

SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE

Midleton 1-17 Fermoy 1-8

Our senior hurlers got their Red FM Division 2 hurling league campaign off to a winning start in front of a fine crowd at Clonmult Memorial Park on a cold but dry Sunday morning last.

Early points from Cormac Beausang (2) and Pa White saw us lead by 0-3 to 0-1 after nine minutes. Fermoy bounced back and the scores were level at 0-4 each after 22 minutes. We then hit three points in a row from Paul Haughney and Cormac Beausang (2) and at the half-time whistle we led by three, 0-8 to 0-5.

An excellent start to the second-half really settled this game in our favour. Points from play from Kian Farmer and Aaron Mulcahy put us five clear before Alex Quirke found the Fermoy net to put us 1-10 to 0-5 in front before Cormac Beausang added a point from play. Soon after Cillian Hurley made a great save from a Fermoy penalty and with Cormac Beausang (3) and Pa White adding white flags we led by ten with five minutes before Fermoy got a goal back but we finished with points from Cormac Beausang and Pa White to get our first league points on the board after a good display.

Scorers: Cormac Beausang 0-11 (0-3 play) Alex Quirke 1-0, Pa White 0-3, Paul Haughney, Aaron Mulcahy and Kian Farmer 0-1 each.

MIDLETON: Cillian Hurley, Seannaidh Smyth, David Scanlon, Adam Daly, Rory Hartnett, Ciarmhac Smyth, Eoin Moloney, Paul Haughney, Sam Quirke, Aaron Mulcahy, Alex Quirke, Cormac Beausang, Paul Connaughton, Kian Farmer, Pa White. Subs used: Christian Murphy and Cian Crowley.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING LEAGUE

Watergrasshill 2-27 Midleton 0-17

Our intermediate hurlers made the journey to Watergrasshill on Saturday evening last for their first outing of their Division 5 campaign.

We trailed by 1-15 to 0-10 at the break and lost out by 2-27 to 0-17 in the end.

Our scorers on the day were: Padraig O'Brien 0-11 (Frees), Evan McGrath, Gavin Reddy, Gary Carroll, Darragh McCarthy, Dan Cagney and Dara Scanlon 0-1 each.

EAST CORK JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 3

Midleton 3-16 Dungourney 1-13

A good solid start to our league campaign in Clonmult Memorial Park on Saturday last. A couple of early goals settled us but to be fair Dungourney came back strong to level things. But a third goal had us ahead by five points at the break. We kept the scoreboard ticking over in the second-half and ran out comfortable winners.

Our next league fixture is against Russell Rovers in Park South on Saturday the 23rd of March at 5pm.

MIDLETON: Cillian Hurley, Rory Lester, Gavin Hurley, Kieran Lambert, Brendan Ferriter, Darragh Codd, Colin Sunderland, Dan O'Sullivan, Tim O'Sullivan (0-3), Tadgh Bohan, Ben O'Neill, Andy Rea (0-1), Christian Daly (1-0), Chris Power (1-3), Mark O'Keeffe (1-8, 5f). Subs: Colin Dowling, Eoghan Collins (0-1), Jerome Curtin, James O'Leary Hayes, Rory Donegan.

EAST CORK JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 2

Midleton 1-15 Killeagh 1-14

A tough physical game in Killeagh last Sunday. It was very much tit for tat, they scored, we scored. At half-time we led by a point and while we went a couple of points behind a few times in the second-half the players showed great character and effort to get us over the line. Credit to the players that lined out for a second time this weekend but hopefully some others will make themselves available and get some minutes under their belt in the coming weeks.

Our next league game is against Bride Rovers in Clonmult on Sunday the 24th of March at 1.15pm. This follows the senior league fixture between the same clubs at 11.30 so a good double header for all.

MIDLETON: Kieran Mulcahy (1-0), Colin Sunderland, Aaron Coughlan, Alex Moloney, Charlie Walsh, Patrik Kane, Darragh Codd, Niall Lang (0-1), Alan Power (0-6f), Evan McGrath (0-2), Peter Dowling, Harry Wall (0-3), Tim O'Sullivan, Chris Power, Christian Daly (0-3) Subs: Adam Fay, Tadgh Bohan, Ben O'Neill.

JUVENILES

FÉ13S

Our Fé13s' first outing of 2024 was a victory over Watergrasshill last Saturday afternoon in Glenville GAA. Next up are Sars at home this coming Saturday for both teams.

FÉ18S

Our minor footballers got their league off to a good start with a solid win over Ballincollig on Saturday last.

A very solid defensive display and a strong midfield and forward unit provided the platform for the victory. Callum O'Brien and Sean McSharry upfront tormented the Ballincollig defense while Adam O'Connor, Fionn Kelly and Daragh Cronin were ably assisted by the inventive Daragh Egan were strong in defence.

Eoghan Fraser and Carthaigh Cronin were also to the fore. However it was the overall team ethic on display which was most impressive.

MIDLETON: Josh Foley, Conor Morley (Capt.), Adam O'Connor, Eoghan Ahern, Fionn Kelly, Carthaigh Cronin, Darragh Cronin, Eoghan Fraser (0-1),  Luca Brodkorb, Odhran Rabbitte, Sean McSharry (3-7), Daragh Egan, Callum O'Brien (0-3),  James McSweeney (0-1), Jack Foley, Rian O'Driscoll, Thiago Fleming.

Our minors are in P1 hurling league action this Saturday (March 16) at 2pm at home (Clonmult Memorial Park) to Inniscarra.

Players learn how to deal with challenges in both sport and life.  The workshop was delivered by Saoirse McCarthy Cork Camogie Player and Conor Bohane Kerry Hurler to our U15 Ladies Football and Camogie girls.
