U14 P1 Hurling League Semi Final: Midleton 0-6 Duhallow 0-6
In a cold and foggy Ballincollig last Wednesday evening Midleton & Duhallow drew (under lights) in the Semi Final of the Hurling League. This was a game that was played in poor conditions, with a heavy wet ground and with fog descending rapidly. Midleton were slow to start and allowed Duhallow to get into the game with a few points. It was only after 15 minutes that we started to hurl to anything like the standard that we can. We gained loads of possession but time and again, from play and from placed balls we missed the target. At the short whistle we were down 3 points on a scoreline of Duhallow 0-5 Midleton 0-2. In the conditions it always seemed that a goal by either side would prove to be a vital score. Midleton dominated the second half and while holding a very tight grip at midfield, we clawed our way back into the game. In the conditions our first touch was poor, nevertheless with 5 minutes to go we lead 0-6 to 0-5. Duhallow though fought gallantly and won a free that levelled the game. The game then went to extra time. However 2 minutes in, the Referee made the only decision he could, when due to next to zero visibility, he blew the final whistle. Thus we turn our minds to hurling again as we prepare for this replay scheduled for next Sunday. The winners of this game will have the prize of meeting Sarsfields in the final.
