Mayfield, 12:00PM

Midleton Under 16’s recorded their first win of the 2012 Football League with a thrilling one point victory over Mayfield on a misty Sunday afternoon.
Midleton got off to a slow start and found themselves 1–03 to no score down after only seven minutes. Gradually Midleton began to find their range however. Kalem Deady’s 10th minute point was cancelled out by another for Mayfield but the last 15 minutes of the half belonged to Midleton. With the wind assisting in the second half Midleton felt confident but once again made a very poor start. Mayfield swooped for their second goal of the day after just 1 minute and quickly tacked on three more points to lead by 7 points, with ten minutes gone. Midleton picked up the pace once again however. They dug deep and began to run at the Mayfield defence. Cillian Deady scored two frees and Kalem Deady claimed his fourth point. Luke Dineen was causing difficulties for the Mayfield full back line and was rewarded with a great goal. Midleton continued to press and when Kalem Deady got the second Midleton goal it put them one point ahead. Midleton battled hard to hold on to their slim lead for the last six minutes and record a deserved victory on a scoreline of Mayfield 2-08 Midleton 2-09.
