Sunday 21 Nov 2010 Junior/Minor - Minor County Football Championship Final

Dromtarriffe (4-09) vs Midleton GAA (4-07)

Mourneabbey, 15:00PM

Midleton Ladies Lose a Cracking County Final

Midleton Minors travelled to Mourneabby on the 21st Nov to play
Dromtarriffe in the Minors Ladies County Final. The Midleton girls have
been looking forward to this final for a number of weeks. Training and
practice games had gone well under the watchful eye of Coach and Team
manager Ray O'Brien. Midleton went into the game with a full squad of
players and no injuries to report. Dromtarriffe had a narrow 1 point win
over Carrigtowhill in the semi final and the Midleton girls beat
Castlemagner by large margin. Mourneabby field was in great condition and a
large crowd travelled to support the girls considering how cold the weather
was on the day. Dromtarriffe started the game a lot brighter than Midleton
by taking an early lead with a goal and point inside the first 10 mins.
Their forward line was causing a lot of problems early on in he game.
Midleton found themselves 5 point behind 20 mins into the game. The back
line of Niamh Farrell, Edel Manley, Ruth Goulding and Carol Cashman were
kept very busy in that first 20 mins but really kept the score line to a
minimum. Midleton got back into the game with a great goal from Leah McEvoy
which was followed up with points from Emma Keane and Orlagh Framer.
Midleton were now within a point of Dromtarriffe with the first half nearly
up when the Dromtarriffe full forward hit a rocket of a shot which dipped
in over Sarah Barrett, giving her no chance of saving. Midleton ended the
half behind 4 points but were after with standing a lot of pressure from
Dromtarriffe. Midleton decided to introduce some experience into the side
with the introduction of Rachel Donovan and Emma Swayne.
The second half started with Mildeton grabbing hold of the game, with
points from Emma Swayne and a goal from Zoe McEvoy. Midleton drew level
with Dromtarriffe with 10 mins to go, this half was end to end stuff with
all the Midleton girls giving every thing to the cause. Claire O'Brien and
Shannon Burke were doing great work at mid field and Rachel Donovan was
rock solid in the half back line. Sarah Barrett kept Midletotn in he game
with two of the best saves you will see on and GAA field.Dromtarriffe
scored 2 fantastic points with 5 mins to go in the game, this gave them a 2
point lead, Midleton weren't finish yet. Orlagh Farmer broker through the
defence to hit a rocket of a shot, only to be stopped by Dromtarriffes
goalie, she was call upon again when Emma Keane got through to have a shot
cleared off the line by the goalie. The game ended with Dromtarriffe
winning on a score line of 4-11 to 4-9
The Midleton girls were very disappointed with the result, but this was a
great performance by all of the girls, they gave everything and left
everything out on the field. The future is bright for this group of players
as a lot these girls have 3 to 4 more years in the Minor Grade. Well done
girls, the club are very proud of your performances this year. The club
would like to thanks Ray O'Brien for his time and dedication this past year
with the Minor.
