Tuesday 31 Aug 2010 Fe 13 - D Hurling Championship

Sarsfields (4-04) vs Midleton GAA (1-01)

Glanmire, 20:00PM

On Tuesday Aug 31st our 2nd string U-12 hurlers travelled to The Castle Field Riverstown the Home of Sarsfields to take on the home side under lights in the D Grade (Grade for 2nd teams) East Cork Final. We had a good squad to choose from not having used any substitutes in the A Grade semi and we started very brightly dominating the opening exchanges against a physically bigger home side and scoring the games opening score with a point from Adam Wilson. Unfortunately from our point of view Sars then took control as their greater physical presence saw them win the majority of ball in our half forward line and in midfield. This resulted in our defence being put under increased pressure and by half time we were trailing by 1-3 to 0-1. On the resumption Sars scored 3 very quick goals and we were really then chasing the game. To the eternal credit of all the boys involved they never stopped trying and eventually we broke through the strong Sars defence to record a good goal from Evan O'Meara to leave the final score at Sars 4-4 Midleton 1-1. It must be said we had some excellent performances on the night from a number of our lads and they showed that with a little more practise and improvement in some areas a number of them are well placed to force their way onto the A team in the near future.
Our Panel on the night was: PJ Fitzgearld (Capt), Conor Evans, Kelvin Hickey, Conor O'Neill, Dylan Cahalane, Harry Wall, Kevin Mulcahy, Sean O'Meara, Kevin Daly, Adam Wilson (0-1), Cormac Higgins, Dion O'Neill-Hill, Shane O'Brien, Ronan O'Donovan, Cathal Gunning, Andrew Nestor, Luke Smith, Tom Scanlon, Evan o'Meara (1-0), Ross Shanahan, Ciaran Evans.
